After Uhe Bear went ashore she" was rapidly ^broken up by successive storms. As it was impossible to save'the vessel, everything of value was removed. Six marine boilers weighing 50 tons each were salvaged from the wrecked ship. The problem of removing these valuable boilers was solved by engineers, wA'plugged each boiler tube, making* it watertight. They were removed by a specially constructed derrjtck and set afloat, later being towed to Eureka. Bay. 77 VANCOUVER. — It is reported in mining circles that the financial interests behind the Ladysmith smelter are about to close a deal for larger mining properties on Vancouver Island so as to insure a continuous ore supply in addition to the customs ore handled. Some months ago American financial interests, headed by"Col. Stevenson, of Alaska, and G. Seiberling, president of the Goodrich Rubber Company, acquired tho smelter from the Tyee Copper Company of London, Eng. Extensive alterations and additions, to make the plant up to date were undertaken and mining men say the smelter is one of the best small plants on the coast. J AUTOMOBILE RECORDS • -.■"'.'
