One of these bylaws is for $25,000 to provide a new high school which will probably be erected near Richmond, while the other by-law is for $10,000 to.provide for an addition of four rooms to the existing school at Steveston. The number of students in these schools has increased very rapidly since the war, and more accommodation is urgently needed now. This shows somewhat of a drop from the same month. last year when the building total amounted to $16,995,200. Back1' of the desire of the Heaps Companv to acquire the site are three good reasons. Ono is Lhe necessity oi owning the property in order to carry out extensive permanent additions and extensions to the plant which the company would not feel inclined to do on leased property. Another reason is that the firm is at present negotiating with an eastern concern with a view to establishing on a portion of the four-acre site not in use at present, a factory for the building and assembling of railroad cars and other machinery.
