VANCOUVER—With every facility for shipbuilding close at hand, with all the timber required within easy reach, there are no signs of that industry being commenced at Prince Rupert, and things are very dull in tlie north, according to Mr. J. H. Pillsbury, who has charge of the government dock at Prince Rupert and who is now in the city. He states, however, that large shipments of spruce'were being regularly made for use in the manufacture of aeroplanes. The district had been pretty well drained of men, and machinists and mechanics were urgently needed. While in Vancouver he has been trying his best to secure a number of such men. efforts of those who assisted were confined to keeping the flames within the smallest possible area. VANCOUVER-^At the last meeting of the civic market and exhibition com- : mittee held recently it was announced that new sewers and other improvements, costing in> all slightly over $1000, had been made at Hastings park and the exhibition grounds. All the work done had been with a view to making the park more sanitary and better suited for a military training camp. At the same time they will all be permanent improvements and add to the value of the property and its adaptability to handle big crowds. Balfour, Guthrie & Co.
