'M ' 'r'Z VICTORIA—Having made a personal inspection of the operating mines of I the Nanaimo district Hon. Wm. Sloan, Minister of Mines, who returned Sunday, states that the present indications are that the coal output will be maintained at such a point as to assure ample fuel for British Columbia during the approaching winter. With a continuance of the existing conditions he felt confident that production would be improved. Because of the shortage in fuel oil. which had supplanted coal to a large extent during the last few years, and the realization that this neighborhood of two million dollars and will, it is said, be commenced almost immediately. TRAIL—Last week another important step in providing an edaquate water supply for Trail was taken when Victor Bianco, who has the contract at $7,037, started a gang of men at work- on trenching for the conduit pipe line from Cambridge creek to Violin lake. . The line is 1,950 feet in length, the means a larger demand for the coal salt-la/ed vUried pipe is 14 inches of the Island, the various companies, „ ^ dSmeter and will connect the Mr. Sloan found, were actively engaged lake, which will be used eventually in the exploring of new areas and the as a storage reservoir, with the cieek Later the dam at the south end of Violin lake will be constructed by the city. Mr. Bianco also has a contract from the city for laying about five niiles of steel water mains throughout the municipality and connecting at Cam bridge creek. opening up of new fields. While it could not be predicted, with any degree of safety, just what the result would be, it was his belief that the prospect was that the industry, which had suffered through the condition referred to, was, about to come; into its own again and that' the entire' .piroyince would be benefited.
