The average speed attained by the War Camchin was 11.5 knots, and no defects were discovered in the machinery or any part of the equipment. I that the new ship will be similar to that of the .S00-ton vessel which will be launched next week. Work on the third slip at the yards is now practically completed and it is probable that it will be utilized at an early date forj a third keel. Although the designs of the vessels are not yet completed, enough has been done to enable the work to go ahead. The only thing that is holding back the work at the yards now is the fact that 'delivery of the lumbei was not/made as expected. If the material arrives another keel will be laid in each yard this week. ANOTHER KEEL LAID AT WALLACE YARD NORTH VANCOUVER—The keel of the first cargo steel ship for the Canadian Government has been laid at the Wallace Yards. Mr. A. Wallace stated LAUNCH INGS. Work on the new steel freight War Storm is so far advanced at the Wallace shipyards that the company has named the date for launching as Sat urday, September 2S. At the Velvet mines, near RossU.nd, the Granby people have 50 men em ployed ami are preparing to drive a long, deep tunnel. Copper ore is being shipped from on scows. Wagons haul the ore about four miles from lain Chief to the wharf. An aerial Irani will be built at the Gibson, near Kaslo. As the official publication for the Architectural Institute of B.C., the B.C. Builders’ Exchange, and the Building and Construction Industries’ Exchange of B.C., the Record primarily covered news related to building, contracting, engineering, real estate, and industrial finance. The Record was published by the Record Publishing Company, which had previously published the paper under a number of different titles, including the Daily Building Record and the British Columbia Building Record. The Record subsequently evolved into the Journal of Commerce. |
