A further dressing of gravel and  earth will be hauled from near the  B. C. E. The average speed attained by the War Camchin was 11.5  knots, and no defects were discovered  in the machinery or any part of the  equipment. I  that the new ship will be similar to  that of the .S00-ton vessel which will  be launched next week. Work on the  third slip at the yards is now practically completed and it is probable that  it will be utilized at an early date forj  a third keel. General Contractors  509 Richards St. Seymour 1412  WORK ON  BOATS WILL  COMMENCE  THIS   WEEK  VICTORIA.—The first frame of the  twenty boats to be built by the Foundation Company for the French Government will be  cut by the end of the  week.    Although   the  designs   of  the  vessels are not yet completed, enough  has  been done to enable the work to  go ahead.  The only thing that is holding back the work at the yards now  is the fact that 'delivery of the lumbei  was   not/made   as   expected.     If  the  material arrives another keel will be  laid in each yard this week.  ANOTHER KEEL LAID  AT WALLACE YARD  NORTH VANCOUVER—The keel of  the first cargo steel ship for the Canadian Government has been laid at the  Wallace Yards.    Mr. A. Wallace stated  LAUNCH INGS.  Work on the new steel freight War  Storm is so far advanced at the Wallace  shipyards  that the  company has  named the date for launching as Sat  urday, September 2S.    L.ike her sister |ltenata  ships, the War Dog and  War Power,  the vessel is a 4,S00-ton  craft and is  built   to   the   order of J. Chambers'&  Company ,of   Liverpool.      She will be  completely   outfitted   for sea by the  Wallace firm.  4'  A dryer is now being used at the  manganese mines nearKaslo. ■ .  The shaft at the Emma at Denoro  may soon be sunk to the fourth level.  In the clirome belt near Cascade  several miles of wagon roads are being built.    ■  The Silver Glance at Bear Lake  in the Slocan will soon commence the  shipping of dry ore.  The Nbrthport smelter' will soon  be using electric power from Bonning-  ton Falls.  .Mrs. A. E. Jowett, of Trout Lake  City is the champion lady prospector  of British Columbia. \  .  It is, reported that about 10 claims  in  the Franklin  camp contain   platin  um, probably half an ounce to the ton.  At the Velvet mines, near RossU.nd,  the  Granby people have  50 men  em  ployed ami  are  preparing to drive  a  long, deep tunnel.  Copper   ore   is   being  shipped   from  on scows.      Wagons haul the  ore about four miles from  lain Chief to the wharf.  An aerial Irani will be built at the  Gibson, near Kaslo. Some of the material is being brought from the Silver Dollar in the Lardeau.
