Women have had a voice in planning homes for many generations, but the importance of her influence in marketing lumber is just beginning-to be publicly realized. ' Last winter women had places on the big convention programs in the American lumber industry, particularly in the large re^ tall associations in Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Oklahoma, and their addresses on home making and home building and planning directed attention anew to the fact that they are important factors in the selling of lumber. In the conventions during the coming fall and winter season, women are to be accorded a still more prominent position in these - conventions. In their addresses last winter, nearly every woman speaker emphasized the need of so arranging her home as to save work and,to enhance Its beauty and convenience. Recognizing the value of a trained woman in planning home building, a large Michigan lumber company has employed a woman expert to act as "Home Building Consultant," the appointment following this wom'an's address before the Michigan Retail Lumber Dealers' Association. Another woman-is "salesman" for a big lum-" ber company in Toledo,'Ohio, selling' last year more than $72,000 worth of lumber in carload lots. Other women are engaged as special writers on home building and planning topics by several of the prominent lumber magazines. The champion log salesman in the Pacific Northwest, according to a Portland, Oregon, authority, is a woman who last year disposed of •78,- 000,000 feet of saw-logs, her success being largely due to her wonderful knowledge of stocks and supplies. A woman also holds the responsible position of purchasing agent for (Continued from Page 1) Queen Charlotte group in the Skeena district. Tenders for all three of .these wharves are to close with Mr. Des- rochers, Ottawa,,at noon of Tuesday, October 5. Each tender must be;accompanied by the usual marked check for ten per, cent, of the amount of the tender. . In the case of the Hollyburn wharf, the contract is to include, in addition to the construction of a new pier of extra strong type to withstand ■ the heavy tide rip which prevails there at times, some dredging.- to provide a greater depth of water at the pier, and also necessary repairs to the pier cribbing. For this contract, plans and specifications may be obtained at the office of the district engineer, Mr. C. C. Worsfold, New Westminster, and at the post offices in Vancouver and Hollyburn.
