The old building will be put in first- class shape for the Woolen Mills factory and a new elevator and steam heating system will be installed, sub- tenders for the various trades will be asked for at once. Machinery for the new plant which was ordered in the east some time ago is expected to arrive in Vancouver shortly and the work of altersting the premises will be rushed ahead, work commencing today. It is understood that the new plant, including alterations to the buildng will cost between $30,000 and $35,000. _ Mr. Joseph H. Bowman, 716 York shire Bldg. prepared the plans. AWARD CONTRACT FOR THEATRE EXCAVATION Mr. Alex. McDonald, general contractor for the new Allen Theatre at detail plans for the proposed natator- ium which the park board plan to build at English Bay. The site selected for this all-the-year-round artificially heated swimming tank is just west of the English Bay pier on the water side of the block bounded by Beach avenue, Chilco and Gilford streets. The parks board plans to have the plans ready as soon as possible, together with an estimate of the cost, so as to publish all details with a view to familiarizing the ratepayers with the facts prior to the submission of a money bylaw at the January elections providing for the necessary funds, which are expected to amount to $200,000. Following persistenly recurring ru-' mors of an impending increase in lumber prices which were in circulation last week, the increase was actually made on Saturday by the lumbermen's association. The increase ordered is effective on all grades of commercial lumber except re-sawn boards and' lath, and amounts to $2 per thousand feet on these lines.
