The material man points accusingly to worker aiid the workers Indicts the material men, while the great mass of the public -meantime looks on inquiringly;, mora concerned with speeding up home construction, so that the all-absorbing: housing problem may be satisfactorily solved to the advantage ot th* trrer. increasing population of Greater Van* couver, than to the virtue of either side of the discussion. ' It is a fact supported by evidence In this and outside fields, that too many l^ofKnien,- despite the advantages of good jobs at highW wages than they jftave ever enjoyed, are to be found laying aside their tools Whenever opportunity occurs; apd opportunities .ont of which grow dissension,, distrust] Said losses to the innocent are never Factories &. It h'Officers, Stores & Schools ■seldom too that constructive plans for .the correction of these disputes are Hryer advanced during such unsettled "aind abnormal times, The burden of the present conditions however, is not 'solely the fault of the worker. Many workers, realizing full well that their bread is buttered on but one side, are «ager enough to keep the building pro- gramme up to a maximum, and to them the public owes thanks that a great bulk °t building is now going forward. fiht anydne familiar with building Conditions knows that the discussion febaut "stabilizing labor and material fc&ats" has not advanced much further than the stage of innocuous conversation, although several members of the Beard of Trade have suggested a conference be called by that organization with reliable building authorities, ■Material men, bankers and realtors with a view to getting at the heart of BUILDING IN8PECTOR BIRD'S REPORT FOR NOVEKKbER; 1§1f Repairs & Altera 66/ 87,745 Dwelling Houses Ii Sl#78B Apartments tc Rooming • ',„ Houses Nil Nil 4 17,000 1 301,000 Total number of«permits for Nov. 1919 7* Total value of buildings for Nov. 1919 S87.530 Total number of permits for Nov. 1918 49 Total value of building for Nov. 1918 ............„>..... 70,798 Total number of permit* tar 11 months, I91»...........»*.....U5S Total value of building for 11 months, 1919................ 2,152,958 Total number of permits for . 11 months, 1918:............... 778 Total value of building for 11 months, 1918......:......... 1,358,731 VICTORIA PERMITS !
