VICTORIA'—A plan for a permanent home for the Victoria" and Island Development Association to be: located 911 the 'Causeway, was laid before the executive Wednesday. The Commissioner has had a sketch plan prepared of a bungalow and alternately of a two-story, building in rustic, the architect figuring that the-outside cost for the 'larger building, which would provide a board room and room for meetings upstairs, as well as the office room accommodation below, would be $2,000. The bungalow could be built for $1,400, but there would be no room'for expansion. The finance committee will consider the offers. NORTH VANCOUVER—Mr. J. L. Stamford, of Victoria, who has been negotiating with the city council, for the establishment of a gas plant,.has placed before the council the terms upon which he will proceed. He proposes to establish the plant on a location approved by the city council, and carry mains wherever required in return for a franchise for 15 years. In the event of the city not being prepared to .purchase at that time, the privilege of purchase was renewable every five years. Within six months of the ratification of agreement, construction of the plant would commence. The rates charged for lighting would be on a sliding scale from $1.75 per thousand cubic feet up to 50,000 cubic feet, and down to $1 a thousand when it reaches 500,000 cubic feet. The Record was published by the Record Publishing Company, which had previously published the paper under a number of different titles, including the Daily Building Record and the British Columbia Building Record. The Record subsequently evolved into the Journal of Commerce. |
