About  §200,000 is involved. The company,  made up of Seattle, Portland and Bel-,  lingham interests, will go into the  business of manufacturing shingles,  sash and doors.  SOUTH VANCOUVER — Municipal  workmen have started on the work of  repairing Forty-third ave., from Main  to Fraser, preparatory to rolling and  surfacing. It is the intention of the  council to make a hard surface road  through from Main via Forty-third  avenue: to the North Arm bridge on  Fraser St. to provide a good road  through from Ladner to Vancouver.  VICTORIA'—A plan for a permanent  home for the Victoria" and Island Development Association to be: located  911 the 'Causeway, was laid before  the executive Wednesday. The Commissioner has had a sketch plan  prepared of a bungalow and alternately of a two-story, building in rustic,  the architect figuring that the-outside  cost for the 'larger building, which  would provide a board room and room  for meetings upstairs, as well as the  office room accommodation below,  would be $2,000. The bungalow could  be built for $1,400, but there would be  no room'for expansion.  VANCOUVER—Tenders    are N being  received  by  the B.^C, Breweries  for  d to two  thousand cords of four foot cordwood  (fir or hemlock) to be delivered in carloads at any point on the B. C. Electric Railway or at, the Breweries, corner of Eleventh Avenue and Yew  Street.  VANCOUVER—Regarding the grant  of $100,000 for the dredging of the  North Arm ol the Fraser River, Mr.  Chas. Macdonald states that he is entitled to no credit for the obtaining of  this amount. As to the shipbuilding  contracts of the Munitions Board, Mr.  Macdonald states that his understanding (not officially obtained) was that  no further contracts would be granted  to British Columbia at the present  time. VICTORIA—The Council has opened  tenders for the purchase of most of  the plant of the old waterworks pump-  "ing station on North Quadra St. For  two boilers, four minor pumps and  other ^paraphernalia, the Victoria  Machinery Depot offered $2,500; Clarence Hoard offered ?1,706 for another  assortment--of material, while James  Leigh bid $151 for the smoke stack at  Elk Lake. The finance committee will  consider the offers.  NORTH VANCOUVER—Mr. J. L.  Stamford, of Victoria, who has been  negotiating with the city council, for  the establishment of a gas plant,.has  placed before the council the terms  upon which he will proceed. He proposes to establish the plant on a location approved by the city council, and  carry mains wherever required in return for a franchise for 15 years. In  the event of the city not being prepared to .purchase at that time, the  privilege of purchase was renewable  every five years. Within six months  of the ratification of agreement, construction of the plant would commence.  The rates charged for lighting would  be on a sliding scale from $1.75 per  thousand cubic feet up to 50,000 cubic  feet, and down to $1 a thousand when  it reaches 500,000 cubic feet. The appropriations  provincial normal school, Vancouver.  for roads, streets, bridges and wharves  hi 'each constituency are the same as  . last year. Chilliwack gets $33,300;  Delta, $22,500; Dewdney, ?6S,500, and  Richmond $40,000. Eighty thousand is  revoted for King-sway through the Municipality of Burnaby. Point Grey gets  $10,000 for roads, and Nicomen Island  the same amount for dyking; $13,500 is a  ■ubsidy for the Ladner-Woodward ferry.  The vote of $400,000 on last year's  estimates for the Second Narrows bridge  Is left off. For bridges generally $4 50,-  000^ is set clown, while for the bridge  ovef the Fraser River at Prince George  there will be an, appiopriation of $150,-  000.  An item In the Land Department appropriations ■ is that for $20,000 for  "timber testing and investigation of  wood products." An indication that the  government intends to continue seeking  overseas markets for the B. C. lumber  trade is that another $50,000 is appropriated for salaries,, travelling expenses,  and nuichase of material.  Other Appropriations.
