State  They Will Erect Large  Structure  DESIGNS INVITED FOR  CHURCH PENTICTON  Registered Architects' Sketches To  Be Received Until Oct. 2*1.  MISSION CITY—A new sftsh and  door factory- is to be established in  Mission City. The. name of the company is the Canadian Western Door  Co., Ltd., and, is organized with a  capitalisation of $250,000.00. The present officers of the company are:, Mr.  C. C. Pierce, president; Mr. R. L. Gal-  linger, vice-president and manager;  Mr. R. B. W. Plrie, secretary.  The company announces that they  will establish a model sash and door  factory having a capacity to start with  of 1.000 doors per day (or approximately 600 doors and 500 window  gash)—a carload of finished product  a day. The plant when completed will  cost about $135,000.00 and will employ  about 75 people with a pay roll amounting to    approximately    $10,000.00  .Registered Architects in the Province of British Columbia, and those  qualified for registration, are invited  by the committee of the Anglican  Church at Penticton, B. C, to submit  designs in competition for a Church  aud Parish Hall to be erected ther*e.  Designs to be delivered not later than  Tuesday, the 26th day of October,, 1920. C-  ARCHITECTS ARE NAMED  FOR NEW HALF MILLION  DOLLAR SEATTLE BANK  SEATTLE—The architectural firm  of Doyle & Merriam .Seattle National  Bank Building, and Bebb & Gould,  Securities building, have been named  associate architects for the erection  of a new $500,000 banking home for  the Seattle National ank on the pre*  sent Boston Block • site on Second  Avenue,and Columbia streets.. Everywhere is  shown a wider appreciation of the fact  that nothing* is .impossible to the architect of taste 'and skill.'  The old and hopelessly ugly"* city  brownstone house- and^'the-' little  two * or'- three story brick house - or  stable -on-a side street' have* been  made"' into*' artistic" ana ''attractive  apartments'or studio buildings. It is  to the architect that we^ owe this renaissance and yet we have only made  « beginning toward the .development  of ".the city beautiful -from old, .unsightly and out-of-date structures. Lest  someone should say "that we-'are dealing with merely idealistic .'matters,  withour own * desire for better things  artistically, we remark that in every  instance these" "artistic" improve-  ments have proven the very best of  business in'.-increased rents and more  desirable tenants'."  If the cost of new buildings has deterred many from carrying*-out-their  long'ctierishe'd'*dream of owning their  own home;- there is abundant opportunity,, almost everywhere for the al  teration of old places at a very moderate cost. And old houses nearly always offer the nucleus*of a more,substantial structure than many hurriedly  built modern houses, put up in quantities for speculative purposes.
