VICTORIA—At this week's meeting of city council tlie question of .improvement of the' heating plant at the new police building, which has never been satisfactory was taken up. Alderman Dinsdale stated that the contractors. .R. J. Nott & Co., had reported that the plant would not be satisfactory,'when it was building, and a letter to that effect had been lodged with the Build- ing Inspector at the time. It appeared that the contractors were overruled by an expert who supervised the construction of the plant. It was eventually decided that the contractors, not being responsible for the blunder, should be engaged to alter the structure, and provide for better heating surface at a lowor consumption of fuel. The work will cost about $800. same Quantity of material A start has already been made on the construction of the power house and the towers have been erected for the distribution of the concrete to the various parts of the buildings as construction proceeds. The plant will have a 7,000-kilowatt unit and one 750-kilo- watt unit, with all the necessary equipment of course. It-is intended, to start the plant up with steam boilers developing . 2,000 horse power for the cooking and drying, but the total hydro-electric power, will eventually reach 20,000 hofse-pow- er, all. of which the company will utilize in due course. •■ The digest building will be five stories, or about 110 feet in height. In addition to the chip-dryer and the wood room, where all the chips are screened and prepared for the cooking, there are such large buildings as the machine ships, supply stores, foundries, export warehouses and various other structures Balfour, Guthrie & Co. Did you ever notice that 95 per cent, of the big successful firms are firms who advertise? They figure advertising as an investment not an expense. The secret of advertising is the selection of a medium vvhicr reaches those people who are or vvil be the most likely "purchasers 0 your product." If you are in the build ing supply or machinery niie don't sc lect a moving picture publication ii which to do your advertising. Because of the fact that the RECORD is Uie only paper published in the province devoted exclusively to the contracting business it is read by practically every one you would like to sell your products to.
