' It is generally conceded by those in.) a position to know that tlie prices of certain materials used in "building will Temairi up for an undetermined and probably long; period. It is also conceded that with such a shortage in the "world's available supply of certain materials, no successful attempt can be made to bring these prices down. On the other hand, it is conceded that prices of certain materials are subject T:o unnecessary, fluctuation, and it° is S» this connection* that'Hinited, action on the part of the rriasfefr'builders as •well as those in the building- trade generally, can.be taken..to create, a Jeeling of confidence on the part of intending builders and owners that there is to be no extensive juggling of prices of building materials in" the near future. The one point.on which all builders are pretty well agreed at the present time is that the cost of building construction must be kept down to the lowest possible minimum consistent with a fair return,to, the contractor ■and those associated with him in the various trades interested. It is tacitly agreed among the majority of Guilders that the cost of building construction should not be allowed to in- 'crease until everything else has gone -up, if at all. That is the stand which the officials of the Northwest Master Builders' Association of Seattle have "taken, and it is a position which quite safely might be assumed •'•■by the local "builders' association. , , There is no doubt about the fact that there is lots of ...building to be NEW WORK - CONTRACTS LET THE FOLLOWING TABLE SHOWS BUILDINGS COSTING f5,000 OB OVER, ON WHICH CONSTRUCTION UNDER WAT, OB ON WHICH CONTRACTS HAVE BEEN LET BUT CONSTRUCTION NOT YET STARTED. BLACKMAN,, Civil Engineer ; EXPECT ADVANCE IN > GALVANIZED SHEETS PITTSBURG-.—'Steel sheet manufacturers are expecting to make advances soon in galvanized sheets, both because of the fact that the old government price was considered as out of line with their costs-and also because of the steady increase in cost of spelter, which has during the past week been moving to consumers at 8c ' Nrew Westminster, b. c and around that' high figure. ."In addition to this, galvanized material ,is in j heavier demand and this fact calls fcr more serious attention. "The present week shows a gain of possibly 10 per cent, in activity of galvanizing departments: _ Predictions are being made of a new sheet basse price of $4.50 per October 1.
