At that meeting the owners will be called on to, show why all these ■dangerous structures should not be razed, as it was conceded they could not by any means be made to conform to present building regulations or fire regulations. Fire.Chief Watson, who accompanied the party, pointed out-how easily a fire might start among this collection of fire traps, and a blaze, if once, it got a good start with a west wind blowing, would create a conflagration that nothing could save the business section of the city. The possibility of a strike at iron and steel works has loomed up in the past week, but it has not slowed down buying, and new business in a number of important products is still going on the books at a rate considerably exceeding current output of the mills. The present outlook is that if a strike-' is voted it'will not be general or serious. At the same time some produc- j> , - ers are recognizing a new hazard in planning for the last quarter of the' year. • Palmer Bros.
