Especially in this climate in -lie ' winter" season does this trouble 'tffect and blue prints thai are used .much in the open air, even if still Ikept under cover. A simple and comparatively inexpensive way of over- -coming this trouble is to render them materproof and therefore less liable .to tear, by saturating them with •paraffine wax such as is used for sealing fruit jars, etc., and sold generally -under the name of, Parowax. The process is' hot a difficult one .and can be carried out either in the average home or even at an ar'chi- «'sleet's oflice after the drawings or ^blueprints are first made. If the prints are placed directly in a pan of 3bis molten wax, they will soak up £00 much of .it and will always feel .store or less greasy to the touch. The . JBOSt convenient way therefore, is to soak a number of pieces of absorbent «ettoa cloth a foot or more square, in 3ne wax. When these pieces o? clottf .are cool lay as many as are required depending upon the size of the bhie- .rprint) on a table or other smooth surface, place the print on top - of these and then on top of the print lay more -dotes until it is entirely covered. •Alter this is done it is only necessary: *i© tub a hot iron over them for- a -Sew moments. The print will im- :aaediately absorb, the paraffine untir the surface becomes saturated. But art the same time the absorption of wax does not affect the legibility of the drawings' in the least. .If the table on which* the work is carried out has a highly finished surface, a layer or two of heavy wrapping paper should be placed between the cloths and the table. Should one of the family irons be used in the process it would also be a good plan to interpose a piece of wrapping gaper between the iron and the cloth also, as it will prevent the iron being fouled with wax. A LIBRARY TO HAVE NEW / STEAM HEATING PLANT The Carnegie Library board has awarded the contract for the installation of the new steam-heating plant for that institution to the' that institution to the firm of Mus- grave, Ltd., 481 Eleventh Ave. East. That firm was considerably the lowest of a" number-of tenders submitted', for the work. The cost of the new installation will run in the neighborhood of '$3000'. The work of removing the old steam boilers and installing the new system is "to 'be 'commenced'' at' once." Tenders will be-' asked 'for the old boilers which are in good shape'arid would'be useful 'on any low'pressure system for a smaller installation. The new heating system is-to be completed in time for use by the .advent of cold weather. Webb, Bueuos Aires, writes as follows: On the prospects for tlie imputation of Canadian building construction materials in tiiat city: — Building operations in the city of Buenos Aires have been in aistate of suspended animation since thc conclusion of the armistice owing to tho expectafion that prices of construction material would fall rapidly after tlie cessation of hostilities. This ex- ! pectation not having been realized, i the building trade seems to have taken ! the view that, as there seems to be no-prospect for an early reduction in costs, operations might as well be recommended without further delay. During tho first four months of 1920 some 2,000 plans for the construction and enlargement of houses within the 'city boundaries have been passed by the municipal authority, and it ia calculated that about ],000 houses are now in course of construction and about 300 oihefs arc boing enlarged, in most cases by tho addition of one or two storeys! Amongst Canadian 'construction materials for which an increased demand can be expected, lumber, cement, asbestos boards, steel casements, roofing felt and merchant bars might be mentioned. There is an 1 absolute shortage of expanded meUU land metal lath. A shortage of glass, particularly of the comn>erciaI grades, ^vas said at a directors' meeting preparatory to tho annual-conv.-sntion of the National Association of Window Glass Manufacturers, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, to prevail not only in the United States and Canada but to be worldwide. This state of affairs was attributed by some of'the largest manufacturers in the country to the following'causes: ( "A reduction of window glass output .by 50 per cent, in this country during the American participation in the world war, virtually two years.
