In this year's'report'of-'the estimates
the <service "miscellaneous" .is divided
fato three distinct services. 'Lands,
upon which $565,000 is, to,;be spent this
year, and ' agriculture",.., upon which
$176,500 will probably be fexpended, are
1 each given a service to themselves, thus
•2-eatly reducing the'.' "miscellaneous"
total. o - -.7, ; - ' .
> Present conditions have also necessitated more and larger'hospitals, the result being an unusually large increase
tor hospitals and charities. Last year
$16,000 was voted in the way of assistance in the construction of hospitals.
IhlB year about ?150,000 will probably
- be granted for that purpose. Grants to
refuge homes, aid societies, etc, is increased from $19,000 to $80,000.
•University of E, C.
Among the appropriations in this
year's estimates is a conditional one of
$200,000 for the University' of --British
Columbia. Last year's estimate was
" $175,000. Included in the works and
buildings to be constructed by the Pub-
'Hc Works Department are the following; "Okalla prison „ farm, $15,000r
Improvement of government reserve,
Burnaby, 110,000; mental hospital and
colony farm, Essondale, '?35,000; provincial government'buildings. London (completion and maintenance), $175,000;
maintenance, $8,000. The appropriations
provincial normal school, Vancouver.
•for roads, streets, bridges and wharves
In each constituency are the same as
last year. Chilli wack gets $33,300;
Delta, $22,500; Dewdney. $68,500, and
■Itichmond $40,000. Eighty thousand is
Tevoted for Kingsway through the Municipality i of Burnaby. Point Grey gets
$10 000 for roads, and Nicomen Island
the same amount for dyking; $13,500 is a
•ubsidy for the Ladner-Woodward ferry.
; The vote of $100,000 -'on last year's
estimates lor the Second Narrows bridge
is left on*. For bridges geneially $450,-
000 is set down, while lor the bridge
over the Fraser River at Prince George
there will be an appiopriation of $lo0,-
An item in the Land Department appropriations is that for $20,000 for
'timber testing and investigation of
wood products." An indication that the
irovernment intends to continue seeking
overseas markets for the B. C. lumber
trade is that another $50,000 is appio-
priated for salaries, travelling expenses,
'and purchase of material.
Other Appropriations.
Among the other appropriations are
,thGi4nt°toIB!:G regiments $5,000, grant
to patriotic fund $6,000 grant to boy
scouts $1,000, grant to Victorian Order
nf Nurses $500, grant to leturned soldiers'aild commissions, $15,000; Royal

They figure advertising as an investment, not an expense. The secret of advertising is the selection of a medium whicr reaches those people who are or wil be the most likely "purchasers o vour product." If you are in the build ing supply or machinery line don't s« lect a moving picture publication ii which to do your advertising. Because of the fact that the KEUORD is the only paper published in the province devoted exclusively to the contracting business it is read by practically every one you would like to sell your products to. Your ad. where they will see it will put a capital C on yovT cash. Arbuthnot, 1557 11th Ave. W Cole 10738—Annondale Supply Co,'New Westminster Ford 10731—F, L.
