SHOW YOUR THRIFT 2Y BUILDING HOME The Dominion Department of Labor in one of its pointed appeals and arguments in favor of an immediate resumption of a general and extensive programme of home building says: The Canadian home owner is the man who has discovered that thrift is •something, more than hoarding the money. The family "sock" and the old china teapot may be chock full of dimes and quarters, or even five and ten dollar gold pieces/and' yet thrift may be unknown to the head of the house. He may be only a. miser. - Thrift not only saves intelligently,] < but it puts its savings to work. Not only does it save a dollar, but it puts that dollar where it will thrive; where it can earn and labor for the welfare and comfort of its owner. 7 On account of suspended operations during the war, the people of Canada, including the gallant returned men who are again taking up civil life- need nearly half a million new- homes. This means that rents are high at present. If you don't own a home you. must pay tribute' to the hard necessities which have brought about a scarcity of homes. Unless some home building gets under way immediately, when our thousands ot soldiers return to civil life and when the thousands who have been living in government7buildings get back to where they, must, have any reasonable sacrifice, for such procrastination only tends to decrease your own home and deferring the date when you will have to face the inevitable and build—at perhaps considerably higher prices than now. The plant will be used, to operate machine drills for the driving of the long tunnel, which is being put in at a point close; to the mine camp, and just below the South Fork wagon road. Recently the Florence mill, at Princess Creek, put on a second shift, and it was hoped to be able to maintain this steadily, unless something unfor- seen happens. A crew of men is being put to, work at the Gold Cure mine on the south fork of Kaslo Creek. It is the intention of the company to carry on some surface stripping in order to explore the vein on the surface. John Smallwood, owner of the King George V. mineral claim at Eaglo Creek, is developing the middle of. three veins on the property by surface work at a depth of 12 feet on the vein Some good ore was found. , Evan, Lewis, who is working at the Silver Bell mine at Kaslo, intends to go to the old country in the fall and •permanently retire from underground mining: Air.
