NEW C. P. R, PIER IS CHIEF WORK OF YEAR'S PLANS Announcement that a large new turntable to handle the big locomotives of the Trans-Canada Limited Service at Kamloops, has been commenced and is to be rushed to completion at a cost, of about $5,000, was made by Mr. F.' W. Peters, general, superintendent for the C. P. R. in British Columbia, on his return last week from a tour of the system as "fair" east "as the Alberta boundary. Outside of this and a number of minor improvements and replacements at various stations along the line, the company's construction, programme for the current year would have to be largely curtailed, Supt. Peters stated. . The new; C. P. R. pier in Vancouver on which dredging and filling operations are already under way at an estimated cost of $250.00Q..is to be the chief item of the company's construction programme in this province this summer. A shortage of labor which seems impending together with the prevailing high fates of. pay has led to a: decision' to materially reduce the company's original $70,6o6,000 construction programme to'absolutely necessary work this summer."-■ ■ Among theT work that will be carried out, however, will be the building of a new tug and'car'barge for Okan- agan lake, and the erection of new ice houses and coolers for Nelson, Cranbrook, Sirdar and other points along the main line where such additional food storage facilities are needed to better handle the increasing pas- types of industrial buildings deserves | senger traffic. -consideration for one-story school ^buildings.
