The one truck hauls 20 tons of coal every 8 hours. It started work Oct. 1. One of its loads tipped the beam at 4120 lbs., and the truck handles more than 2 tons right along. The Consolidated Motor Co., Ltd., 1230 Georgia St. W. handles the Maxwell line hi Vancouver. BENEFITS OF DAYLIGHT SAVING BILL TO THE MOTOR WORLD The adoption of the Daylight Saving Bill, which went into, effect this week, is one of those steps fully chnr- acteristic of the American people to take those measures necessary to meet situations that call for prompt action. Especially is this true with the automobile industry, where every second counts in meeting, demands now being made upon it, not only by the govern- rment in war work, but by dealers in supplying business concerns with motor trucks and' passenger cars. During the daylight saving period there are 209 days, exclusive of the two Sundays. Deducting 29 Sundays as well as the three holidays—Decoration Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day— gives 177 actual working days. EFFECT ON AUTO INDUSTRY. The effect of the aditional hour on the automobile industry providing the hour was spent in additional labor, would increase the wages and salaries of the 280,000 workers employed in the motor car industry, as well as the 230,- 000 workers employed at dealers' garages, repair shops, etc., to 510,000 working hours per day or 8,670,000 hours during the daylight saving period, which, if figured at an average wage of ?3 per hour, would result in $1,530,000 in increased wages per day, or $270,810,000 for the full additional hours. MINING. TYank L. Underwood, aged 73, president of the Canada Copper Corporation, died "in a New York hospital 4_st' week. Granby earned over $400,000 in February, producing 3,843,687 pounds of copper, of which the Anyox plant turned out 3,125,687 pounds. Diamond drilling has been started in the San Poil group, Republic, by the' Consolidated Mining and Smelting Co. The first hole will attain a depth of 700 feet and the third 2000 feet. ■ Rossland mines have (sent 50,000 tons of ore to Trail this year, Slocan 'and Ainsworth mines have sent 5S39 tons and East Kootenay, mines 20,996 tons. U. S. mines contributed only 1676 tons to the ore record here. Chas. F. Caldwell, of Kaslo, objects to the commission recommended by the Associated Boards'of Trade to investigate smelting charges to custom mines in *Xootenay, and has wired Ottawa and Victoria strongly recommending another commission, -of -which, it is understood, he would like' to be a member. " Mr. Caldwell has' been to Victoria 'himself on the same mission recently, and is now proceeding to Ottawa with the same object^ in view. . , * You can buy 5 Maxwell trucks for the price of one reliable 5-ton truck inaKnot!
