The contract figure being about $5,000. mill near Jackman, on the County Line road, which was' practically completely destroyed by fire last .Monday afternoon. The fire, which was of unknown origin, made a clean sweep of both the j sawmill and shingle mill, the lumber stored in the yards and the shingles j stored, in the dry kilns and sheds. The j loss is estimated to be about $75,000, and partially covered by insurance. ESTABLISHED IN 1886 Ground Floor 739 Haatlngi St. W. Wlnoh Bldg. Vancouver The Cunard Steamship Company has announced the opening of a branch office at Antwerp,- Belgium, in line with its policy of expansion since the war has been concluded. i FOREIGN TRADE British debts this year will aggregate $7,500,000,000. More than $!2,500,- 000,000 is expected by loan from America.: About $5,000,000,000 is an outside figure for revenues from taxation in corning financial year. London despatch says about 20,000 .British firms with $20,000,000,000 capital will form federation to take advantage of new Department of Overseas Trade. Latter plans to reform consular service and spent $6,250,0000 annually. Commercial attaches will be established. which, if successful, may practically revolutionize the lumber industry where the handling of large quantities are required. Some thousands of the standards of timber required will be made up into and carried on a demountable ship, of which the timber will form both the structure and the cargo. This practically means that the timber is to be built up into a sailing vessel, preferably of the schooner rig, and the ship as well as her cargo taken to pieces again when England is reached. Plans for this kind of a shipment had been prepared during the war to obviate the submarine menace and provide an unsinkable ship, and although no longer required to circumnavigate the submarine, they are to be given a practical trial in connection with at least one big timber shipment.
