WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 1902. MANY NEW THINGS SEEN BY THE EDITOR. On Saturday the News editor went to the Mother Lode to see the recent improvements. The first place visited was the mule tunnel to see what was being done. The second shute (the continuation of which is the winze that connects with the 200 level) is being timbered and will soon be ready for use,and tbusdoub el the tonnage from the big glory hole. The glory hole which was next visi - ed is now 100 f^^tdeep at the face, 150 feet long and 125 feet wide. In the floor there is aVpi't 50 feet deep and 50 feet wide and long which forms an ore reservoir and connects with shute No. 1 in the mule tunnel. This ore is flr>t sen? to a bin near the quarry* then loaded into cars and goes to the gravity tram two at a time. These fill one of the larger cars on the gravity tram. Then it is emptied into a shute and reloader into cars and sent to the small crusher. The ore from the 2nd. quarry is handled just like that from the sulphur quarry with the exception that it goes direct to the gravity tram. A new home has been built for Dewey the donkey.
