NEW WESTMINSTER NEWS
PLANS  UNDER  WAY  FOR
$200,000 BANK BUILDING
Plans are being prepared by Mr.
CawBton, official architect for the Canadian Hank of Commerce throughout
Canada, for a li-sto. and bsmt., r>4x64
ft. brick bank bldg. to he erected here
at a cost of $200,001). The ground floor
will contain a banking room 60x60 ft.,
and a vault !��x!2 ft. The interior finish will be of mahogany, with a marble
Moor and stucco and sand finished
walls. Exterior finish will be of terra
cotta and Iloston pressed brick, with
cut stone base. The bsmt. will contain
a vault and a hot water healing system
will be installed. The roof will be of
tar and gravel. A ladies' waiting room
Will be elaborately fitted up. The 2nd
floor will contain offices and vault.
Burlap wainscoting will be used.
The third floor will contain 6 rooms
for the staff, one to be divided into 3
cubicals for the junior employees and
a large richly furnished parlor will be
provided. The entrance will be marble and the vestibule will be Br, in
marble nnd mahogany. The cornice
will he of terra cotta. A standplpe
with 60 ft. of hose is to be installed
on each Moor. R. II. Davidson is manager of this bank. The Canadian Hank
of Commerce is also having plans
drawn for two other branch bldgs.,
but particulars will not be given out
at present.
BIG  CEMENT  COMPANY
TO ERECT LARGE PLANT
The Kraser Valley Tile & Cemenl
Co., Ltd., 461 Columbia St., will in the
near future build a plant for the manufacturing of tile, brick, drain pipe,
bldg, block, ornamental pieces and
other building materials. They claim
that their process will make building
materials less expensive than at present and at the same time just as durable as more expensive methods. They
will also manufacture a line of specialties such as grindstones, stones to
replace emery wheels, razor hones,
wash tubs, wash boards, urns, toilets,
counter tops, fence posts, trolley poles,

ESTIMATES   FOR   $110,000
WORTH OF SEWERS REPORTED
City Engineer Eellowes has prepared
a plan of extensive sewer Improvements covering nearly every part of
the city, and at a meeting of the board
of works yesterday afternoon recommended the const, of a large number
of trunk sewers and mains. The recommendations involve over $110,000.
The largest sewer is to be a .1-ft. trunk
on   Maple st.  from  Creel.nan  ave.  to
1st ave., estimated to cost $2.r>.    At
the next meeting of the board of works
the engineer will bring in estimates
for sewers in I he southerly portion of
Ward four. If the Maple st. sewer Is
approved by the board he will also
bring in estimates for more sewerage
facilities for that part of Ward six
between Granville street and the l.uli.
island tracks south of Broadway.
Mr. Fellowes recommends In his report that the advice of Engr. Lea, a
sewer expert, be obtained for the laying out of a complete scheme for the
peninsula before work is undertaken
on the trunks in the westerly part of
Ward Six, and the southeasterly part
of Ward Five and on Bridge st.
