H. Mc- Vety, President of tbe Vancouver Trades and Labor Council will welcome the guests at 10 o'clock on the morning of Monday, September 20, and immediately thereafter, J. C. Watson, of Ottawa, will take the chair and the business of the week will commence. Whatever the subject taken up, and the platform of the Congress indicates thai there will be many, the debates are sure to be interesting for tho delegates are all able debaters used to public discussions and sincere in their beliefs. The attainmelits at this year's Congress will be restricted somewhat by war conditions. Arrangements are being made by the local council as well as by other organizations to show the labor men the scenic beauties of the city and its vicinity. Platform Por Congress. The platform of the Congress Is as follows: Compulsory education. Government Inspection ot all industries. Legal eight-hour day, six days per week. Abolition of contract system on all public works. Minimum living wage, based on local conditions. Public ownership 'if all franchises, such as railways, telegraphs, telephone, water and lighting systems, etc. Tax reform by lessening taxation on Industries and increasing same on land values. Abolition of Dominion Senate. Exclusion of all Asiatics. Union label on all manufactured goods, where practicable on all government and municipal supplies, as guarantee of their production under conditions other than those in vogue in "sweat shops." Abolition of child labor by children under 14 years and of female labor In all branches of industrial lite as in factories and workshops. Abolition of property qualifications for all public offices. Voluntary arbitration of labor disputes. Compulsory voting and proportional representation with grouped constituencies and abolition of municipal wards.
