Free Milling Property Near Jedway
Has bcea Sold.
Vancouver, B. G, Dec. 12.-According to a wire received by Mr. H. E.
Bodiae of Jedway, and now in this city,
the Federal company ha.-, decided to
bond the Tangier group, situated on
Huxley island, off the east coast of
Moresby island, the principal of the
group. The consideration will be $JiM,-
0(H), with a 10 percent peymenl in cash
on signing the papers, and the Laiance
in payments extending over a period of
18 months.
The proposition comprises four claims.
It wn.-i recently examined by Mr. C. S.
Chisholm, a mining expert of the Standard Oil people. He is now in Spokane,
where he assayed numerous samples of
ore taken from the leads on the surface.
The group, according to Mr. Bodine,
who staked it five months ago, has a
vein of free milling gold ore, with a
width of 40 feet, and giving average
assay values of $5 per ton. Running
through the vein are numerous rich
stringers from two to five inches wide
and giving assay returns as high as
$10,000 per ton. The vein can be traced
across the island, which is only twelve
miles distant from Jedway. Mr. Bodine
made big money this summer by reducing the ore with a pestle and mortar.
He only treated the ore in which the
free gold was visible.
An 80-foot vein of copper ore also
traverses the group. It averages 7 per
cent in copper, with gold values of from
$1 to $3 per ton. Mr. Bodine regards
the copper showing as equally valuable
as the free-milling proposition. His
partners are Messrs. A. J. Ross, John
Averill and Joseph Davis, all of Skidegate. Mr. Bodine anticipates that the
Federal company will carry out development work immediately on an extensive scale. He anticipates the erection
of a copper smelter and a stamp mill
for treating the two varieties of ore.
Mr. Bodine has also bonded another
proposition, the Copper King group of
three claims, to Mr. J. Wolffshon, local
German Imperial consul, and Mr. E. F.
Girling, of this city. The bond of $160,-
000 is to run two years, and the cash
consideration was $3,000, representing
the first payment. The properties adjoin the well known " Swede " group,
which is situated on the east coast of
Moresby island, 40 miles from Jedway.
The lead is stated to have a width of 126
feet, with average values of 3 per cent
copper and gold values of $3 per ton.
It has the same identical showing as
that on the adjacent Swede group, also
recently bonded by the same people and
for the seme figure.

It is refreshing to note that John

well. He and Joe Martin might get

only trouble would be the selection of

British Columbia, when the time comes,
will remember how she was treated by
Sir Wilfred Laurier in the matter of
"better terms," how an effort wm
made to rob her of her title to Indian
lands, and how the Ottawa authorities
have refused again and again to protect
us, or allow us to protect ourselves
against the Asiatic peril.—Cranbrook

Harold Begbie, one of the English
journalists who were entertained in
Canada by Canadian!, does some knocking of these same Canadians in the London Daily Chronicle. The sooner Begbie and the class of Englishmen to
which he belongs realize that Canadians
are freeborn British subjects and at
least fully equal in loyalty, intelligence
and the general requisites of good subjects, to any production of the paternal
and maternal combinations of the old
land, the better it will be for the bond
that holds the two people together. For
Englishmen to assume a superiority
over Canadians is ridiculous in the ex -
trcme, .and one would think that a man
in Mr. Begbie's position would display
mora common sense than is shown by
his article in the Chronicle.
passes every eye will be turned toward
it, thousands of people will be building
their homes there, and this vast, fertile,
now but little known land, will be the
mecca of the homesteader, as was
Southern Alberta a year or two ago."
" You remember the rush to that land
of cheap homes; perhaps you were in
Edmonton at the time. Perhaps you
saw that city grow. In the same way
will'cities grow in this new land.
" Railroad construction will commence
at the Pacific terminus, Port Simpson,
and as faat as men can force the work
the Hudson Bay-Pacific railroad will lay
its line of steel across these plains.
Just ahead of the road will be the same
rush of homeseekers that preceded the
building of the Great Northern and
Northern Pacific as they forced their
way to the Pacific.
"The terminal point of this road will
grow as grew St. Paul when "Jim"
Hill's army of construction men drew
their supplies there and spent their
money in civilization. Such will be the
growth of Port Simpson, and as the
Bale of supplies to the vast multitude of
farmers, timbermen and railroaders
who poured through its gates made
millionaires of the earlier merchants of
St. Paul, so will they do for the earlier
comers at Port Simpson.
"All the West is now settled save
this portion, and to those who would
duplicate the fortunes of the old-timers
in Washington, Port Simpson offers the
opportunity. It will be the greatest
shipping point north of Seattle; at no
other place on the great seaboard of
British Columbia is there such a harbor. The timber of the vast forests
along the line of this new railroad, the
mineral from the mountains and the
wheat from the great plains, will come
to Port Simpson, the terminus, for ocean
transportation to the Orient or United
States. The supplies for the millions
who will settle along the lines of the
road will come to Port Simpson for
shipment inland. Truly will Port Simpson rival Seattle as a city of thousands
and as a port of the Pacific."

"At last all that is left of the virgin

rivers and schoolhouses will dot the hills.
The timber that for ages has clothed

"Where is this land? Why has it
