Your* truly 8ti'*&t Hindikson.
The receipt of the above letter has not changed the opin
ion of The Nicola Herald as
to the conditions existing at
Spences Bridge, and if the cap
fits by all means wear it.
The Nicola Herald in a
spirit of "live and let live"
made the item referred to as
moderate as possible and many
a traveler could tell of his sad
experience at Spences Bridge
as to hotel accommodation and
other vices going on.
The main object of the hotels
are centered in the bar room
where drinking is going day
and night every day of the
week. The poor unfortunates
from along the grade joining
in the saturnalia of debaucher
ies and the few dollars they
possessed was greedily taken
by the pickpocket, strong arm
man >r gambler.
Who was to blame? John
Barleycorn was no doudt responsible for more than one robbery or shooting.
In the latter part of Mr.
Henderson's letter it says "Mr.
Clemes was granted his licence
and feels much aggrieved," etc.
The sentence should stop at
aggrieved and the word relieved
placed in its stead.
The letter also states "that a
man who knows nothing about
his place or the difficulties of
running it should make such
uncalled for remarks." The
writer of the remarks has been
acquainted with Spences Bridge
for over twenty years and during the past season it was his
misfottune to be in the place
several times and those visits
did not tend to elevate it in
his estimation.
The difficulties of running

Bridge is to have enough
whisky on hand; hire a man to
dish it out and keep taking the

Now that the licences have
been granted it would be as
well for the licence holders to
thank their luck and not have
too much publicity given to
what is called first class accommodation and attention.
The following paragraph is
very appropriate at time although happening some time
ago:
A member of the Clemes
family in describing Spences

Murray's place, said: 'That
is heaven," and meaning their
hotel said, "This is hell."

For Nioola Valley.-Boost, Don t
Knock. Keep Nicola Tal-
ley to the Front.
Ninteen hundred and six in
the year of our Lord will be
the banner year for the Nicola
Valley.
Therefore let everyone, old
and young, put their shoulders
to the wheel in the endeavor to
advertise the vast mineral and
agricultural resources of the
valley of the Nicola.
We have copper, platinum,
gold and coal yet we lack that
which will bring these minerals
to the surfacecapital.
Yet capital will sit astride
the cowcatcher ol the first locomotive that enters our valley
ready to exploit the realms of
Pluto.
Every local man, woman and
child knows that throughout
the district there are thousands
of acres of land well adapted
for agriculture which are now
primeval forestyet let it be
the aim of each and everyone
to spread the news to our kin
in the east and over sea.
Tell the world of our wonderful climate with its bracing
health giving ozone. If they
come they will see, and Nicola
will conquer.
Let none measure his crops
by the experience of by gone
years for with the railroad will
come an influx that will tax our
resources to the utmost as surely as night follows day.
Don't push your own enterprise solely and onlytell the
truth and shame the devil and
you'll rake in dollars and happiness at the same time.
Come one, come all to Nicola Valley.

Many well meaning men and

their intentions from the birth
of the new year.
Alas for the failty of human

intentions bear the test of time
or are strong enough to break
the habit of a lifet.me.
Some forswear whisky and
all other alcoholic drinks, yet
succumb to the first offer of

in fact, laughed out of their

one more stone towards paving
