LOCAL BREVITIES
Died. —At Lillooet, April 19,
Charles Lycurgus, the son of
Harry O'Donoghue, aged 7 mths.
Dan Hurley left for the coast
on Tuesday's stage.
Richard Means and Joe Pitsie
are working on the improvement
of the new road.
Miss Sebring and Leo. Sebring
left on Wednesday's stage for
Washington.
Andrew Swart and E. Ostran-
der, ranchers from Fosters Bar
were in town on business this
week.
Mrs. C. McCaffery, Mrs. Tony
Yiera and Miss Watkinson are on
a visit to their parents at Fosters
Bar ranche.
H. Brown arrived on Saturday
from Pemberton Meadows where
he has been investigating his
mining claims.
Louis Gold of Pemberton Portage arrived on Saturday for the
summer provisions and reports
the snow all gone from that
section.
B. S. Swanson, Jr., of Banana
ranch, came into town on Wednesday. He says everything is
in excellent shape around the
Portage.
T. Madison of the 21-mile ferry
paid us a visit on Monday. He
says the ferry is in good running
order, and that George Tinker is
in just about the same condition.
Miss Goodered, who has held a
position on the Victoria Hotel
staff for the past three months,
left last Saturday for Kamloops,
where she will remain for some
time visiting friends.
John Sebring and his wife and
family left on Wednesday en
route to their ranche on the
Bridge river, it is their intention
to have a stopping place, which
will be a great benefit to the
travelling public between here
and the Cadwallader mines.
Bill Leach left Wednesday for
Cadwallader creek after spending a few days in town. He intends starting work immediately
on the Minoru mining claims and
from indications has great hopes
of making a good showing this
summer.
Local and District ImprovemF
Mr. Moore, road superintendent, arrived from Clinton Wednesday accompanied by Jack
Jones. He intends going up to j
the Mission Camp and in all probability will proceed further up
the Bridge river, beyond the extension of the present constructed
road.
Considering all the new Companies who are going to operate
this summer in this mining sec- j
tion dependent on this road, it
would be a great help to the
mines in general and Lillooet in
particular to have this road completed this fall up to the mines.
This would increase transporta-
tion facilities and also give more
encouragement to the investors
and prospectors who visit this
district, which has proved itself
even by the old primitive method
of extracting the precious metals
by the use of over-shot water
wheels and the prospectors ar-
rastras. With a tax of 20 cents
per lb to transport machinery it
is no wonder that there has been
no great effort made to show the
wealth of this promising section
of Lillooet.
Geo. V. Copley of Victoria left
on Thursday for the Pemberton
Meadows, to do considerable surveying. He is in charge of Mr.
SwannelPs party, and included
are: C. W. Pennyer, G.H. White,
T. Rognaas;Mr. Swannell, P.L.S.
is expected in a few days. The
party will work on land surveys
in the meadows and will also do
considerable work on the Lakes
and in this vicinity. They will
leave later on for Fort George
and the Nechaco.
W. Durban has received a consignment of 800 trees, principally
apples, from Victoria which he
intends to plant on his ranche at
the head of Seton lake, in addition to this he has already got
over 200 trees that were planted
last year. He left on Wednesday's boat.
Jack Logan and Pierpont Morgan left last Saturday for the
Lillooet Stud stables, where they
will commence operation on a
page-wire fence for which they
have the contract. Mr. Tiffin
the owner of the ranch is resident in Vancouver
Walter S. Mitchel of Notch Hill
left Sunday morning for the
coast. He spent a few days going around locally and is highly
pleased with the fruit growing
possibilities of this section. We
understand that he has invested
freely here.
Paul Santini came down from
the Fountain Monday, having
finished putting in his crop; he
now has over one thousand fruit
trees planted, principally apples
and of all varieties.
W. Page assisted by W. Mar-
tln is now doing the finishing
work on the inside of the addition to the Victoria hotel. This
will make four additional rooms.
J. Birtch, rancher of North
Fork, arrived in town this week
and reports spring up there ahead
of the town. Bully for North
Fork.
Mr. and Mrs. Foster of the
15-mile house was in town Saturday; they will probably be city
residents shortly as it is rumored
they have sold their ranche.
Messrs Brett and Phair, paint-
'■s and decorators, have started
on their contract of painting the
Roman Catholic church.
It is rumored that the coal bed
near W. Jones' ranche, Bridge
river, is about to be investigated.
bully for W. W.
Dr. Christie is sinking a sump
for the purpose of sanitary drainage which will be about 22-ft.
deep.
W. G. Duguid is planting a
large number of trees on his estate at the Short Portage.
Mr. J. Bell is having his house
on main street painted.
DeShields-Durban

Joe DeShields last Sunday when

Durban were united in holy wedlock, Father Chirouse officiating.
We wish them long life, health
and prosperity.

coast t is morning.

Chirouse in the Fon.an Catholic
Sunday morning at which there
was a large attendance.

morning with E. J. Taylor to inspect some land on the Upper
Fraser. He left for the coast on
Wednesday's stage.
Arrangements are being made
for the nomination of the different enumerators for the coming
census of the West Lillooet district. Mr. John Yorston formerly M.P.P. for Cariboo is the
Commissioner for the whole District.
C. L. Copp, manager of the
Coronation Mining and Milling
Co. of Cadwallader, who arrived
last week, is a well-known mining man in B.C.. he having held
positions in the Kootnays, Slocan
and Queen Charlotte Islands. He
