ULLOOET ADVANCE
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1911
$2.00 Per Year
LOCAL BREVITIES
w : ; ; i
Mrs. A. F. Noel arrived in town
last evening from Vancouver.
Thos. Taylor, local G.T.P. c'lief
left for Lytton on Wednesday.
J. McKenzie, storekeeper of
Pemberton Meadows, left for the
coast on Sunday last.
W. Kane, rancher on the Lytton road, spent a couple of days
in town this week.
Joe Russell, local game warder,
left on Wedneeday on a tour of
inspection of the game reserve.
A new billiard table has been
installed at the Victoria hotel.
The table arrived last evening.
Ralph Webster returned to
Lillooet from the coast last evening by way of Lytton.
There is a strong rumor afloat
that Lillooet is to have a subdivision in the near future.
The telephone system, installed
by Messrs. Phair and Sors, last
week is proving a success in
every possible way.
Dan Hamilton, who is placer
mining and trapping on the South
fork of Bridge river, is spending
a few days in town.
Roy Burkholder, rancher of
North fork who has been spending a few days in town returned
home yesterday morning.
Owing to a large snow drift at
the "big slide," the Lytton stage
did not get around the slide till
about 3 o'clock p.m. on Wednesday.
A special meeting of the Over-
Seas club will be held in the
Victoria Hotel reading room on
Tuesday evening, at 7.30 p.m.
sharp.
Mrs. M. R. Eagleson intends
to leave for California in a few
days. Miss Goodered of Vancouver is to have charge of the
housework during her absence.
Banker Shot
Henley, Sask.—A. J. Ferguson,
manager of the Dominion Bank,
shot and killed himself yesterday
morning, the body being found
yesterday afternoon in a coal
shed. The act is attributed to
overwork. Everything is in proper shape at the bank.
Howe Sound & Northern
and Grand Trunk Pacific
The Howe Sound & Northern
railway survey party, urdcr J.
D. Nelson, were the first to complete their survey into Lillooet.
The party commenced their
survey at Newport thence along
the Squamish river, crossing the
Lillooet river to Summit lake,
thence to Anderson lake, thence
along the north side of Anderson
lake to Seton lake, along the
north side of Seton lake, down
Cayoosh river to Lillooet.
Mr. Nelson and his party left
last Sunday for the coast.
The Grand Trunk Pacific party
are still in the field, but will have
completed their survey into Lillooet in the course of a few days.
The party commenced at a point
near Agassiz, thence along Harrison lake, following the river to
Lillooet lake, thence to a point
between the Lillooet river and
the Birkenhead river, where they
struck the Howe Sound and Northern survey, which grade, they
have practically followed into
Lillooet.
The route from a point on the
Lillooet river, which empties into
Harrison lake, to Lillooet is considered an excellent one with
low grades. It trends north
easterly through a very fine mining and agricultural distric'.
From Lillocet the G.T.P, line
is likely to extend along the Eraser all the way to Fort George.
There arc two parties in the field
completing the survey between
Lillooet and Fort George. It wrs
at first inteneTed to seek a shorter
route to Vancouver by building
down from Tetc Jaune Caclic.
Last summer a Grand Trunk outfit are supposed to have "hooked
up" with a previous survey made
between the Cache and the
junction of the Clearwater and
the North Thompson livers. The
route from the last mentioned
point was via Tonaparte lake,
Bonaparte river and therce a-
cross country to Clinton, a point
above Lillooet. The whole region was found to be very rough
and the building of the line involved serious and costly engineering problems. In view of
these circumstances the line will
most likely start at Fort George,
and follow the Fraser to Lillooet,
The Howe Sound and Northern
road has already been built to
six mile creek on the Squamish
river.
Coal Bill
Victoria. — McGuire's resolution respecting the price of coal
passed the House unanimously
last evening. The Premier intimated that before the Province
instituted an enquiry he would
send to Ottawa once more. If
the Federal Government did nothing the Province would then
act.
Found Drowned
Nelson.—The Provincial Police
have received word that the body
of a man has been found on the
shore of Arrow lake. The only
person that is knowr to be missing is William Bull, a commercial
traveller who mysteriously disappeared from Revelstoke in
October last.

Fired Shots
Vancouver. Yesterday morning three Italians endeavoured to
enter a house on Park drive, and
on being refused admittance they
burst in the door and created
considerable disturbance. Celep-
pe, an old man, owner of the
house in an effort to expel them,
fired two shots, one of which
took effect in the shoulder of a
man named Natale, seriously injuring him. Further inquiries
are being made.
Veto Bill Abandoned
London. — The Unionist press
has completely abandoned the
veto bill and the House of Lords
and have taken up the reciprocity
agreement as a live issue.
Unionist editorials say that
Tariff reform and Imperial preference are more urgent than
ever.
Paul Santini, rancher of Fountain, who has been spending a
few days in town, left for his
ranch on Tuesday.
