Clarke has taken a position in C. A. Phair's store. The auto Lillooet is expected to leave for Ashcroft on Mondav with Frank Mclntyre at the wheel. G. A. Morton of Clinton arrived Wednesday from Clinton and is touring the district with a view to investing. Divine service will (D.V.) be held in Methodist church tomorrow as follows: Sunday school at 11 a.m. Evening service at 7.30; and at Foster's Bar at 10.30 a.m. Will Haylmore, fire warden, returned Wednesday from a trip to the Pemberton country and left on Friday on an official trip up the Fraser. We were at fault in our last issue when we stated that Miss Elliott had arrived from Vancouver to assist on the Victoria hotel staff, it should have read Miss N. Hillier. S. Boyd, Mrs. D. Moore and child drove over from Ashcroft on Tuesday by special. It is the intention of Mrs. Moore to remain here with her child and camp out all summer. C. Phair, Government agent, who has been on an official tour up country, and latterly on a combined business and pleasure trip to the coast cities returned home on Thursday. Dr. Christie arrived home this week from the coast where he has been on a visit to Mrs. Christie and their young son; he says they are both in the very best of health. We are glad to say that Joe Shuster of the Gun creek stopping house, who hurt his knee during his last visit to town, is about again and well on the way to complete recovery. Joe Russell, game warden, returned the latter part of last week from his tour of the game district. He left for the Upper Lillooet river district on Wednesday morning. CONSTRUCTION OF HOSPITAL BEGUN The construction of the Lillooet cottage hospital commenced in earnest on Tuesday morning under the supervision of W. Duguid and W. Page. All the lumber for the building is being supplied by the local mill and not from Lytton as some people have it. The water main is also being extended to the above. Grant White is putting a verandah around his house at Bridge river. A. Brett and A. Phair have started on their contract to paint Dan Hurley's house. The road camp started work at the six-mile on the Lillooet Ashcroft road with A. Swart in charge. Chas. McCaffery and Lee Harrison brought in a load oi piping and sundries for A. W. Phair. They report freighting improving in Lillooet and district. Messrs Crane of Ohio and Sutton of Winnipeg left town Wednesday morning for McGillvary creek on a prospecting trip and expect to be away all summer. F. Gott who has been working on the instalment of the new irrigation ditch for A. W. Phair's ranch, just above town, is practically through on this end of the ditch. Tommy Hurley arrived in town on Tuesday with the 'up cotntrie' outgoing mail and reports the crops and everybyody coming along fine, also work progressing favorably at the mines and on the roads. Still further improvements are being added to the Victoria Hotel, this time, Cork filled linoleum has been laid on the barroom floor, and the upstairs halls and coridors have been laid with heavy cocoa nut matting. Messrs. C. H. Park, R. E. Park and P. H. O'Connor, of Blunting, Mont, who have been prospecting in the vicinity of the Big Slide on the Lytton road, left this week for McGillvary creek on a prospecting trip in that vicinity. PROBABLY ELECTION BEFORE CHRISTMAS It is the general opinion in Parliamentary circles in Ottawa that a general election will be held before Christmas. The efficient opposition put up to the reciprocity measure has convinced the government that it will be impossible to force the agreement through without an appeal to the people. Both Liberals aud Conservatives have planned important political tours with a view to educate the people as to what is involved in reciprocity. D. Arthurs of Chilocten who has been on a visit to the coast arrived in town last evening from Lytton and will remain here for a few days, the guest of his brother Jack. Tommy Dougherty drove the Ashcroft stage in town last evening. A very pretty wedding at which the Rev. W. Bromwich officiated was witnessed at the Methodist church on Tuesday morning, June 6, by a large number of the friends of the contracting parties. The bride. Miss Nellie Bell, who was given away by her father, looked charming in her gown of white silk with overdress of Brussell's net, with pearl trimming, and veil of embroidered Brussell's net. she also carried a shower bouquet of white carnations. The bride was attended by Miss M. Hunter, who was becomingly gowned in Pink mull, she was also attended by her younger sister Ora Bell, who was dressed in white silk over pink, both carried shower bouquets of white carnations. The Groom, Mr. H. G. Painter was supported by Mr. A. W. Phair. Mrs. Led- erwood, organist, and Mr. J. Dunlop, vionlist, played Lohengrin's Bridal march as the bride entered the church and Mendels- shon's Wedding march following the ceremony. Many very handsome and useful presents were received. Bard is in town this week enjoying a well earned vacation. ; It is reported that Mr. Keeble owner of the Baillee hotel, Lytton has sold out. Sam Boyd paid a flying visit to brother-in-law while he was*over here. Sandy Euguid is busy these days hauling lumber for the hospital, from the local mill. Jack Eagleson arrived in town Friday from the 18-mile ranch with another load of the famous Lillooet sheep. H. Schwartz, guide, returned from his trip up the Fraser and reports lots of game in that vicinity. Messrs H. Logan and J. T. Cable of the Lillooet stables paid a flying visit to town last Saturday for supplies. H. G. Painter of Victoria, arrived on Saturday and took in some of the sights of the Lillooet district, returning on Tuesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. R. Clarke, who recently came over from Ashcroft have taken up their residence on main street on the west of Mrs. A. F. Noel's house. Empire Valley A number of real estate deals have been made lately, among which is the sale of the McEwen estate comprising about eleven thousand acres of land with one thousand head of horses and cattle, to J. Kinvvorthy for the sum of $105,000 ; the Boyle estate, adjoining the McEwen estate, comprising about eleven hundred acres of land for the sum of $22,000. The property is at present under the management of Sandy McEwen. and will be taken over by the owner about August 1. We are glad to be able to state that J. Tate, rancher, who has been sick for some time past is around again the same as ever. A new government road from Big Bar to the Tait estate, a distance of about six miles, is now under construction, under the supervision of Dougal McDonald.
