Vol. I No. 39 SATURDAY, APRIL 15, 1911 er Year LOCAL BREVITIES R. Dorrell left this week for Clinton to take a position there. W. Leach came into town this week for supplies. Miss V. Sebring left Thursday on a visit to the Carson estate, Pavilion. S. Marshall, who has been working on the new bridge at Quesnel returned home Thursday M. R. Eagleson and J. T. Mel- lott returned home on Thursday from Clinton. The smiling face of R. T. Buxton was in our midst for a few days this week. Mrs. and Miss S. Boyd who have been visiting friends in the district for the past week, returned home on Wednesday. Grant White of Bridge river, came into town this week for supplies. He reports everything running smoothly at the mine. Miss E. Carson who has been the guest of Mrs. J. Bell for the past week returned home on Thursday. Dan Hamilton came into town last week from the mine and reports all the boys in good health and everything 0. K. C. L. Copp, manager of the "Coronation" mine (late Ben D'Or) arrived Friday from Vancouver in Auto Lillooet by way of Lytton. George Bell, who has been bartending at the Excelsior hotel left on Wednesday for the mines where he expects to remain all summer. I. Hunt, rancher, left for the coast on Thursday afternoon via Lytton. Mr. Hunt will bring in ten thoroughbreds from Westminister. Roy and Harold Burkholder, ranchers of North Fork, were in town this week for supplies and report seeding far advanced in the North Fork district. The first pre-emption to be staked since the "revision" of the "Land Act" was made on Wednesday, when Joe Russell and Chas. Morgan made a trip to six-mile point, Seton Lake, and staked a pre-emption. Will Construct Fort George-Vancouver Line This Year The G. T. P. Ry. survey party which wintered at Crow's Bar has moved to Chimney Creek, where they are awaiting the arrival of an auxiliary force before resuming the location of the Fort George-Vancouver branch line of the G. T. P. A Montreal despatch states that "An official announcement of the intention of he Grand Trunk Pacific to proceed this j year with the construe! ion of the Fort George-Vancouver branch may be expected ver shortly." The decision of the management has been freely discussed in inside circles lately. It is based on a realization of the fact that, while the contract to build the main line through to the official terminus at Prince Rupert, i in accordance with the contract with the Dominion Government, will be carried out, greater traffic possibilities will be created with the extension of the line to Vancouver. At best the through traffic to Prince Rupert can not be very large for many years to come, whereas a big tonnage can be secured in and out of its Southern rival on Burrard inlet. It is learned that actual grading on the Vancouver branch will be under way this summer, most of the surveys having been completed. An official of the Grand Trunk Pacific railway has expressed the opinion that his line would be into Vancouver before the Canadian Northern will have completed its main line from Yellowhead Pass. Sebring-Carson Spend Honeymoon at Coast A very pretty wedding was solemnized at the Methodist church on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. by the Rev. W. W. Bromwich, when Miss Cora Sebring of Lillooet was married to Mr. George Carson of Pavilion. The bride wore a pretty dress of cream taffeta silk with cream over-lace. She was attended by her sister, Miss Vesta Sebring. Mr. Robert Carson acted as best man. Mr. and Mrs. Carson left for the coast at 10:30 a.m., on the automobile "Lillooet." They will spend their honeymoon visiting the coast cities, and on their return will take up their residence at Pavilion. The Advance joins with their many friends in wishing them much happiness and prosperity with good health to enjoy it. Among the many who came into town for the wedding were Mrs. Carson of Pavilion, Mrs. and Miss S. Boyd, of 70-mile house; Misses M. McDonald, M. Pollard, both of Clinton; E. Carson and E. Carson of Pavilion; Messrs. F. J. Carson and R. Carson of Vancouver; C. Pollard, J. Pollard, A. Smith of Clinton; F. G. Harman and C. W. McGee of Pavilion. SS. Britania Excursion To Mission and Portage The residents of Lillooet took advantage of the many visitors to town this week and organized a trip up Seton Lake on the SS. Britania. the outcome of which was some fifty visitors and local people left town about 11 a.m. Wednesday in three rigs arriving at the lake about 12 noon. Immediately upon arrival Captain Kinder gave the order for casting loose, which, amid loud cheering and blowing of whistles was executed. The weather was all that could be desired, the lake being as calm as could be, not a ripple was to be seen anywhere. In due course they arrived at the Mission where lunch was prepared and partaken of. After dinner everyone again boarded the boat for the Portage, which in due time was reached; after allowing time for a ramble about the Portage the whistle sounded for the return. Vocal and instrumental music, dancing, and all kinds of sports were indulged in on the boat which arrived home about 7 p.m. The drive to town was a pleasant one, and everyone who made the trip speaks very highly of it, the visitors remarking on the beauty of our locality. I LOCAL BREVITIES For information regarding revision of land act see insertion. The following gentlemen have been summoned as jurors from Lillooet to serve at the Clinton Assizes: S. Gibbs, I. Hunt, H. Phair, W. J. Abercrombie, T. J. Reed, D. McDonald, E. Holt, F. ^Bishop, R. Burkholder, H. J. Keary. Dance and Social A dance was held at the I. 0. F. hall on Wednesday evening at which about twenty-five couple met for a jolly and social, .time. The dance started about 9 p. m., everybody entering into the spirit of the evening, things continued pleasantly until the small hours of the morning. Refreshments were served about 12 o'clock by the local ladies, there being but one fault, at least that's what the ladies say, these jollifications do not come often enough. The evening was one of the jolliest of its kind this season everybody remarking "it was good to have been there." The music was supplied by the local orchestra. Pemberton Jottings Special Correspondent The platinum mine will be developed this summer by t cross tunnel. More or less work will be done at all the leading mines. A trail will be constructed up Bauer mountain to the four claims staked a couple of years ago. Joseph Bauer has been successful in draining the marsh at the back of his ranch, thereby putting an approximate fifty acres of land in shape for clearing as most of the timber is water killed and is very dry. Bill McClure has arrived from Squamish to do some more work on his pre-emption. He says the horses will go over the trail by the end of April. This will be earlier than usual. No late news from head of Harrison lake. The Indians were snowshoeing over Gibraltar hill not long ago, but snow is now well gone. * The Lillooet Advance Saturday, April 15.
