E. S. Peters is back at his old stand and doing business with the local trappers for their fur. Lee Loring has been busy all week overhauling the automobile "Lillooet" owned by W. Manson, in the new garage. E. J. Taylor has returned from a trip up the Fraser as far as High Bar and reports no snow in that vicinity. Divine service will (D.V.) be held in the Methodist church tomorrow at 7.30 p.m. Rev. W. Bromwich will preach. Tom Manson & Nels. Gott returned from their cabin on Bear creek with a catch of fur. One big cougar figures largely in the catch. A pleasant 'bridge' party gathered at the home of Mrs. J. Bell last Tuesday evening. There were two tables and some remarkable hands were held. A number of local sports, trappers and ranchers made a trip up Seton lake last Sunday in a gasoline launch, with J. Arthur in command. John McPhail has had his ranch on the Ashcroft road surveyed and as soon as the weather is favorable will begin laying the pipe for his water system. A pleasant dance and social was held on Monday night at the home of Mrs. H. J. Keary. A very enjoyable evening, with ex- celent local music, being passed. A. Brett, who has been on a two month's vacation to the coast cities, returned to town on Tuesday having spent a very enjoyable holiday. He expects to have a big run of decorating Work this summer. The contract for the new chicken house of Mr. C. Noel in now completed, with the exception of the installation of the incubators. The contractors were Messrs J. Shuster, Seabring and Alford; great credit is due them for the the good work they accomplished. Rome. — Princess Ditrigona, Lady in waiting to Queen Helena, was murdered today in a hotel by Leiut. Baron Paterona, cavalry officer, who then shot himself. Investigations are being made. Juneau, Alaska.—The Steamer Georgia, operating the mail run between here and Litka, struck an unchartered rock near Sitka Hot Springs and was seriously damaged. Victoria.—By readjustment of the line of the Canadian Northern on Vancouver Island it is understood the railway will skirt the easterly shore of Sooke lake, instead of the western, as at first announced. Ottawa. — Mackenzie King, Minister of Labor, is expected to go to Washington to confer with the President on the possible amendments to the reciprocity agreement. He was in the House last night and so far as can be ascertained has not departed from Ottawa. Springfield, N.S.-The troops stationed here were called upon to quell serious rioting, caused on account of a strike, When the men returned to work they were stormed by a mob with bricks. Several were hurt but not seriously. The troops dispersed the rioters after the police had failed. Nelson. - The dead body of an Indian woman, Mary Christie, last seen at (astlegas, on Monday evening, was found lying face downwards some distance east of that place. The police are investigating the case. Ottawa. —The City authorities seem to he further away than ever from a solution of the Typhoid epidemic. Today, as every other day, showed an increase in the number of cases. 771 cases have been reported since January 1?. Washington.—U.S. Consul Foster at Ottawa, is here on summons from Taft, to be followed by a mem her of the Canadian cabinet, to confer with the President respecting possible amendments to the reciprocity agreement. London, March 1.—Fresh demands by Russia upon China are reported today in a Pekin dispatch to Reuter News agency. Russia, the dispatch says, has demanded a more definite statement from China es to the Russian rights in Manchuria, Hi and Mongolia than that given in China's recent reply to the Russian note regarding the treaty of 1881.
