Looking For Flaws.
Don't look for Haws as you eo on
through life.
And even when yuu find them,
It is wise and kind to lie somewhat
hlind
And look for the virtue liehind them,
For the cloudiest night has a tint of
light
Somewhere in the shadows hiding ;
It is better by far to look fora star
Than the spots on the sun abiding.
The current of life runs ever away
To tlie bosom of Bud's great ocean :
Don't set your force'gainst the river's
ooune,
And think  to alter its motion ;
Don't waste a euree xm the universe—
Don't shrink at the trials liefore you.
Don't butt at the storm with your puny
form,
But bend and let it gooeryou.
The world will never adjust itself
To suit your whims to the letter ;
Some things must go wrong your
whole life lung.
And the sooner you know it the letter,
It is folly to tight with the infinite
'    Anil go under at last in the wiestle ;
Tbe wisest man shapes into God's plan
As the water shapes into a vessel.

Latest News of Dreyfus.
London, May 29.-M. Th- Blowitz,
Paris, correspondent of the Times,
commenting upon the steps about to
be taken by the court of cassation in
the case of Dreyfus, says :
Tlie report of M. Ballot De Beaupre
ends by saying : "If the court adopts
the conclusion of its reporter, it will
order a revision of the ease and will
send Dreyfus before a fresh court martial to lie judged according to the law."
In that case acquittal is certain. I
doubt whether then- will be even partial secrecy in the new trial as everything has already lieen revealed and
no danger has arisen at home or
abroad.

Favours Arbitration.
The great disarmament confer*
! ence is liable to dwindle to one
for the consideration and adoption of
the principle of arbitration, as a few
days ago the question of arbitration
was forcibly brought io thefront by
Sh Julian Paunceforte the British
representative to the conference.
Under date , if May the 27th the corres-
poiiiiant of the London Daily Tele-
graph at the Hague reported as follows :
Peace prospects touched high water
mark to-day when the conference found
itself face to face with arbitration in a
practicable and acceptable form and as
a permanent international achievement. This hunoi is mainly due to Sir
Julian Pauneefote. When the inem-
liers of th- arbitration section had
finished reading the Russian proposals
on this subject Sir Juiian expressed
his complete approval of them, but
said il would be a great pity if the conference failed to embody the principle
ul arbitration in some permanent
statute :
"I now beg to propose," he said, "the
formal establishment of a permanent
arbitration tribunal empowered to deal
with all matters in dispute capable of
reference to the judgment of an umpire. I ilo not intend to trouble you
nor until ) - i ept '",■ 11 ine • of
my proposal. Therefore I ask j >u to
accept the principle."
M. De Staal at once declared : "Sir
Julian Pauneefote having presented
In* proposal, we are prepared to supplement and to complete the printed
suggestions just distributed by others
dealing with a permanent arbitration
lioard.''
Thereupon the Russian president of
tne conference drew a paper from his
pocket and laid it upon the table then
and there. The paper contained a
foundation of a permanent tribunal,
stu-g'-sting the substitution of a new
clause aud referring to an appendix
not yet drawn up.
The amazed delegates crowded
aruiiiidSir.Inlij.n congratulating him
upon having played the winning card,
which had so quickly precipitated the
Russian alternative scheme. .Some
stood aghast as the matter was nut
Contemplated in their instructions.
Finally, it w.is decided lo refer the
matte; to ;i Mih-coiiiiiiittee.
The Americans, it is believed, are
elaborating an organic stature for the
erection of a permanent tribunal,
which willprohaWy be laid liefore the
conference mul be supported by the
British delegates when the principle
embodied in Sir Julian's resolution is
accepted.

Camp McKinney again to the Front.
A I'ig strike of ore was made a few
days ago on the Ninth Star claim in
(.'amp McKinney, which claim lies
about one and one half miles from the
camp in a north-westerley direction,
and is owned by lucky Bill Edwards,
who only recently sold his interest iu
the Dolphin mid Shannon claims to
Spokaiioj parties.
Upon the North Star work has beeu
periodically done lor eight years.butas
there are three ledges on the claim and
the work had been done on the other
two ledges, the good ore in the third
ledge was not discovered. This ledge
was attacked a few days rgo and as a
result, us soon as thi- shaft had penetrated to a depth of 12 feet, some four
feet of fine looking ore was shown up
between walls.aml since then thu ledge
has heen stripped on the surface for
tpiilc a distance, The ore is well min*
emlized,ean-ying galena, zinc, iron and
some copper pyrites, and resembles
exactly the Cariboo ur characteristic
ore of the camp. Some visible gold
has also lieen encountered in the ore,
but as no assays have yet been made
the average value has not heen
determined. This will he known in a
few days, and as the ore is free milling
and concentrating and the property is
well situated the development of the
claim will be watched with much interest.
The next claim to the North Star is
the Mainland owned by Messrs, J,
Lind, Thos. Humphrey, and C. Held,
Oreenwood parties.

The Imperial Limited.
A dispatch from Montreal dated the
25th of May says : The new fast service on the Canadian Pacific Kailway
will be inaugurated ahout the middle
of June, probably the 18th or lllth.
The flyer across the continent will lie
called the "Imperial Limited," and will
reduce the time between Montreal and
Vancouver to about 100 hours. There
will also he a daily trans-continental
service instituted, owing to the vastly
increasing volume of travel, and trains
will leave on Sundays as well as on
week-days, this being absolutely necessary to relieve the present heavy truffle
on Monday trains, with travellers from
Europe. The hour of departure from
Montreal will he'0:90 a.m., and Toronto
about for hours. Jitter, and Winnipeg
and many ports of Manitoba will be
brought within IK hours of this city,
local trains in that province making
close connection with the "Imperial
Limited."
Vancouver and Victoria will be
reached on the 4th day out from Montreal. The Kootenay country will also
be advantageously affected by the new
service. A fast train on the Crow's
Nest Pass Railway, to which a through
sleeper will be attached to Kootenay
Landing, will make this alternate route
to these gold-fields the shortest aud
quickest one from the East. Though
passengers will have a choice of routes
to the Pacific Coast by the main line
or by the Crow's Nest Pass branch,
just as tbey now have the option of
travelling around the north shore of
Lake Superior or by the Upper Lake
steamships of the ^company between
Owen Sound and Port William.
This new fast service is to be greatly
supplemented hy an increased local
set-vice ou different sections of the line,
so that the accelerated 'speed will be
largely obtained by the reduction of
the number of local stops.

Mr. T. W. Stack is laying the foundation for a residence on Sth street.
Mr. Stack is interested in mining properties in Summit camp, also in Grahams cainp. Like many others Mr.
Stack recognises that no mutter where
the mining interests are in the district,
with a railway they are not too far
away from the ideal residence-town,
Midway, and therefore he bus selected
this place in which to build a homo.
Vory shortly Mr. Stack will start to
develop his Graham camp property by
running a crosscut tunnel to strike the
ledge, which on the surface is somewhat broken up, but from which he
took oro which gave an assay return of
■17 percent in copper,
Mr. Donald Graham, of Armstrong,
was a visitor iu town on Friday and
Saturday, being on his way home after
having paid a visit to the Burnt Basin
district east of Christina lako, Mr.
Graham expressed himself as astonished at the amount of improvement
he noticed all along tho route of his
journey, since his last visit to this district. Al.noiigli not now a member of
the provincial legislature, Mr. Graham
takes very much interest in all questions effecting his old constituency,
and as before stated so it must be again
said, that the people of East Yale
made a great mistake when they failed
to return at the last election their former representative.
A few days ago Mr. Scott McRae
returned from the main Kettle river
and west fork sections, after having
made a thorough examination and located routes over which the wagon
roads to be built there this summer by
the government, will he constructed.
Mr. McRae does not confirm the gen-
eiiil opinion that those sections are
easily accessable by wagon roads, as he
says that in some places it will require
much work to get a good road bed. In
fact Mr. McRae considers that the
funds available will not be sufficient to
build the roads and the bridge over
the west fork, although they will go a
long way towards it. In some places
there are enormous rock slides and in
others some very boggy ground will
have to be crossed,
A Wee Bit Banquet.
A few of the old members have
moved away andsome have committed
tbe crime of entering the ranks of the
benedicts, hut when occasion requires
there are still enough members of the
Midway Thirteen Club left to have a
good time. One of these good times
was experienced on Monday evening
last, when the guest of the evening
was Mr. John Withell, of Montreal, a
member, and one of the directors of
the Midway Company Limited, a
gentleman who'afier spending about a
month in the town, left for his home
on Thursday lust, going out by way of
Camp McKinney. During his sojourn
at Midway, on the hanks of the Kettle
river, Mr. Withell ingratiated himself
into the affections of the people, a
process easily accomplished by one to
whom acortcous and kindly bearing is
natural. Therefore no wonder is it
that some of the citizens of the place
desired to show their appreciation of
the interesl which had been taken in
tbeir welfare, in their own peculiar
way. this taking os before indicated
of a "Thirteen Club" banquet. Of the
proceedings very little must be said, as
one of the most stringent rules of the
chili relates to secrecy, but under pain
of offering great displeasure it is herein chronicled that the bill of fare consisted of speeches and songs, in all the
known dialects and tongues, the latter
with musical accompanynient, and
"cough drops" to stimulate the vocal
organs, with an addition to the bill of
fare at midnight of a splendid coalition
nicely served, and much enjoyed by all
present. Of the speeches the predomi-
neiit feature need only he noted, viz,
that much regret was expressed at the
near departure of the guest of tho
evening, and a sincere desire offered
that tho near future would see his return, not as a visitor, but to become a
permanent resident of Midway, to all
of which Mr, Withell suitably responded.
Tho singing of "Auld Lang Syne
and "God Save the Queen" brought to
a close iu tho early morning hours one
of the most successful entertainments
of the "Midway Thirteen Club."
