Mr. Palmerston, who has heen sojourning in the south recently in

Mr, Stunner, an old lime photographer of known excellence, bus
opened a photographic studio at Midway, and from henceforth little excuse
will exist should Ihu young gallants of
the neighborhood fail to leave no impression other than upon their charm- j
ing feminine friends.
Mr. T. B. Williams, brother to Mrs.'
Palnierslon, has just, heen elected to
the United Slnles senate from the
statu of Louisiana, and although elected
upon the Republican ticket, so popular
was he iu the stale, that his majority
mu..unteil aluiosi to an unanimous
vote, as the ballot showed a return of
507 votes out of 000.
Mr. O. A. Henderson, of the Hank of
Montreal, Vernon, is again a visitor to
the district, having come down from
Vernon on Thursday Insl. Mr. Henderson, on his perambulating trips
through the distiict, has always uu
eye open for business, nud un ihuilit is
endeavoring to keep in touch with the
bank's many customers in Ibis lower
seel ion of country.
Brick and lime are in active demand
at the present time, and as a consequence'Messrs. Winters and Leplante
intend' burning a kiln of brick upon
Iheir ranch near Boundary Falls. The
proprietor of the present yard, Mr.
Burns, is doing a thriving liusiness, as
he has ricenlly taken orders for the
supply of a large quantity of brick iu
the different towns of the neighborhood.
Dr. Edgar, the newly appointed timber inspector, who now lllis the position formerly occupied by the late Mr.
Hayward, passed through the district

gathering a rich harvest nf logs, nud
therefore feel it. a pleasure to enrich
the provincial treasury by contributing a moiety of the profits derived
therefrom.
The Vernon city council are experiencing no end nf trouble ill securing a
suitable dumping ground for garbage
and refuse. Why not purchase an
acre or two of land somewhere and
then dispose of the garhnge by burning it up. This may he a somewhat
expensive method of disposing of gar-
hage.yet, at. the same time il. is Ihe
most sanitary method uf dealing
with il,
Mr. L. K.Hodges, formerly city editor of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer,

On Friiluy, May 1, a disastrous fire
occurred in Vernon, the premises of
Mr. A. D. Worguii having succumbed
to the flumes, Luckily no wind was
blowing nl the time or lhe destruction
would have been uuicli more severe, as
a number of small houses nud u photographic slu.lio stood nl Un* back of fhe
