Your Generosity
Be Appreciated
The Ladies' Auxiliary to the
Anyox General Hospital are arranging a specially attractive dance for
Monday, November 2nd. No effort
is being spared to make this an outstanding success. The "Merrymakers' Orchestra" will supply the
music, and an attractive supper will
be provided.
A special feature will be a display
of dancing by the pupils of Mrs.
V. S. McRae. This item alone will
be well worth your attendance at
the dance. The funds raised will
be well used for the work of the
Auxiliary in the coming year. The
excellent work of these ladies in
supplying extra comforts for the
sick is well deserving of your support, so that by attending the dance
you not only get an evening's splendid entertainment but you assist a
very worthy cause.

A Real Potato Crop
"Believe it or not," as the car
toonist would say, but Mr. Harry
Smith dug thirty-two pounds of
potatoes this week, grown from
one seed potato planted in his garden at Alice Arm. This is probably a record for Alice Arm and
perhaps for northern British Columbia and also a whole stretch of
territory to the south. The potato
was out into three parts when
planted, and except for an occasional watering did not receive any
special oare.

do you know the reason?
Churoh Worker—Yes; she put
her hat down when she came to

Sherritt Gordon Producing
Copper at Low Cost
Sherritt-Gordon is turning ont
copper at a final cost of 5.60 cents
a pound for a refined electrolytic
product, according to an interesting analysis of the operation in the
Northern Miner. Operating costs
at the mine itself were stated to be
down to $2.22 in August, indicating that the company could make
substantial profits with copper at
10 to 12 cents per pound.
With copper at 7 cents Sherritt-
Gordon is able to do little more
than keep its head above water
even with costs at 5.60 cents per
pound. This is due largely to the
difficulties connected with finding
a satisfactory market. However,
ivs Sherritt-Gordon has not piled '
up a large accumulation of unsold
stocks, the Northern Miner concludes that the company should
continue in fair financial shape
provided the selling situation nets
no worse. Sherritt getsji share of
the Canadian domestic market and
some of the American and foreign
business.
