"Errata slip inserted. "References and notes": pp. 118-121. The author was a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, and a surveyor in Western Canada where he became interested in the history of the area, especially the fur trade. He was responsible for identifying Samuel Black as the explorer of Finlay River (ref. no·46 ). This study is concerned principally with the area now part of Alberta but also includes the British Columbia section.
