The captive of Nootka or the adventures of John R. Jewett [Goodrich, Samuel G. (Samuel Griswold), 1793-1860]
Description
"([Peter Parley's little library, no.2]). On spine: Parley's library. In subsequent printings the series appeared in an advertisement on the verso of the frontispiece. Written for children and often attributed to Richard Alsop, editor of Jewitt's Narrative (no.280). Goodrich, author and publisher, is best known under his pen name, Peter Parley. He wrote prolifically, largely for children. A complete list of his publications numbering about one hundred and seventy volumes is given in A.S. Allibone. A critical dictionary of English literature and British and American authors, 1884. The captive is dated 1832, an error, as it was not entered for copyright until 1835. The check list of accounts of Jewitt's captivity by Norman Dodge (no.279ia) lists six printings, all with the same format and pagination."-- Strathern, G. M., & Edwards, M. H. (1970). Navigations, traffiques & discoveries, 1774-1848: A guide to publications relating to the area now British Columbia. Victoria, BC: University of Victoria, p. 107.
