"On half-title: By authority of Congress. Atlas has title: Atlas. Narrative . . . By authority of Congress. Edition limited by Act of Congress to 100 copies. Wilkes, however, secured a copyright on his Narrative and published an edition of 250 copies of which the U.S. Government received 100. He also brought out several cheaper editions: Philadelphia, Lea & Blanchard, 1845, 1845 (5 vols. and atlas), 1849, 1850, 1852, 1854; New York, George P. Putnam, 1851, 1856; London, Printed in Philadelphia, 1845; Ingram Cooke and Co., 1852 (2 vols.); Whittaker & Co. [printed 1845] condensed version. There is also an abridged one-volume edition with title: Voyage round the world . . . Philadelphia, G.W. Gorton, 1849; New York, George P. Putname, 1851.
