Milet-Mureau, Général de Brigade dans le Corps du Génie, Directeur des Fortifications, Ex-Constituant, membre de plusieurs sociétés littéraires de Paris. Description

"Also published on large paper in 4to, ref. Sabin. This official scientific expedition made important observations on the northwest coast, especially in Alaska and California but did not make landfall in British Columbia. The ships disappeared after sailing from Botany Bay in 1788. Attempts to find them finally succeeded when Peter Dillon found the wreckage on Vanikoro Island in 1826. The valuable scientific reports, Lapérouse's romantic history and the mysterious disappearance of the expedition resulted in numerous editions, translations and abridgements of the official account and several spurious accounts of alleged later adventures. Relation d'un voyage intéressant de la frégate la Princesse de Manille à Sant-Blaise en 1780 et 1781, translated from the Spanish of Mourelle by A.G. Gingré, vol.I, pp.256-323. Extrait de la relation d'un voyage fait en 1779 par don François Antoine Maurelle [!] . . . pour le découverte des côtes occidentales de l'Amérique Septentrionale, vol.I, pp.324-342." -- Strathern, G. M., & Edwards, M. H. (1970). Navigations, traffiques & discoveries, 1774-1848: A guide to publications relating to the area now British Columbia. Victoria, BC: University of Victoria, p. 158-159.
