The backwoods of Canada: Being letters from the wife of an emigrant officer, illustrative of the domestic economy of British America. To which is appended an account of the country of the Oregon [Traill, Catherine Parr Strickland, 1802-1899]

Description

"At head of title: Canada and the Oregon. First published by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, in The Library of Entertaining Knowledge, in 1836 and subsequently reprinted several times. 1846, the only issue with the Oregon section (ref. T.P.L. nos.1922-1926), which was also issued as a pamphlet (no.430), has a separate t.p.: The Oregon territory, consisting of a brief description of the country and its productions and of the habits and manners of the native Indian tribes, with a map of the territory. Mrs. Traill emigrated to Canada with her husband, a lieutenant in the 21st. Fusiliers, and made her home near Rice Lake, Upper Canada. The section on the Oregon was added to this printing because of public interest at that time."-- Strathern, G. M., & Edwards, M. H. (1970).
