"2 errata slips inserted, ref. Howes. Copy seen has one. This work grew out of a series of articles published in the Astoria Marine Gazette, 1865-1866, ref. Pref. "Mr. Gray, a missionary, reached Oregon in 1838. His history has been mercilessly criticized by Hubert Howe Bancroft [no.25] who declares that it would take a work equally as large to correct the mistakes in it":- Cowan." -- Strathern, G.
