Compact radio source variability at centimeter wavelenghts Scott, William K.

Abstract

The discovery and monitoring of variations of radio flux density in compact radio sources has greatly increased our understanding concerning the nature of many astronomical objects. The exceptional radio sources SS433 and Cygnus X-3 are examples of objects that first stood out because of their dramatic radio variability. This thesis presents a catalogue of 146 radio-variables, discovered with the data from the Greenbank Northern Hemisphere 6 cm sky survey. In addition, one particular radio-variable, GT2318+620, is investigated in more detail by the use of VLA observations.
