Les nuances de la complexité : une étude des fables complexes de Jean de La Fontaine

J.-P. Collinet and G. E. Lessing have written respectively about fables doubles (double fables) and fables composées (compound fables) - referred to collectively as fables complexes (complex fables) - with each having their own definition and criteria. But when these definitions are used to analyze fables in the first volume (recueil) of Jean de La Fontaine's Fables choisies, the lines that distinguish these types of fables from each other become blurred. The goal of this thesis is to explore the nature of fables doubles and fables composées by analyzing certain fables of La Fontaine that correspond to these definitions, and then to propose a classification system to describe the nature and structure of fables complexes that is less rigid and more flexible and nuanced.
