Collagen peptide analysis reveals origins of 16th century anatomy book Logan, Curtis J.; Beck, Charlotte; Kalsbeek, Katherine; Andrews, Sue; Speller, Camilla F.
Description
The UBC Library copy of “Anatomie universelle du Corps humain” [Universal anatomy of the human body] by Ambroise Paré, 1561, was acquired with the purchase of Hugh Macdonald Sinclair’s collection in 1965. The accompanying inventory stated, “This copy is bound in human vellum”. Collagen peptide analysis refutes this claim; instead, indicating that the binding is from sheep skin.
