As a chamber musician, Grace has appeared in various song recitals in Vancouver and Asia, performances with the UBC symphony orchestra and in "Spanish Passion - Carmen" at the Vancouver main Public Library. With the UBC Opera ensemble, her roles include Helene in Hin andZuriick, the Witch in Hansel and Grelel. She has also appeared with the Burnaby Lyric Opera, the Vancouver Opera and the Silesian Opera (Czech Republic). Recently, Alan Corbishley (Nardo) played the Father in UBC's Hansel and Gretel and in February was a guest soloist with the Kamloops Symphony. This past summer, Alan played the role of Papageno in Die Zauberflote in the Czech Republic, and Paisello's The Music Master and his Two Students with the Modern Baroque Opera. Other major operatic roles include Superintendent Budd in Britten's Albert Herring, Menotti's The Telephone and The Medium. Upcoming performances include The Pirates of Penzance in May, and The Music Master in both Seattle and Vancouver. Lee Froelich (Ramiro) a native of San Diego, California made her professional debut last Spring with the San Diego Opera in the productions of The Conquistador and Turandot. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Voice from The University of Redlands, in Southern California, where she performed the roles of Dorabella in Cosi Fan Tutti and Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro. She is currently working towards her Master of Music Degree at UBC and is studying voice with Prof. Diane Loeb. Mari Hahn (Sandrina) completed her Bachelor of Music Degree at the University of Toronto, and continued her studies in Italy, Austria and Germany. She is the artistic director of "Opera Breve", a new company specializing in one act chamber operas. Recent roles include Pamina, Despina, and Gretel. Mari is currently in the Doctor of Musical Arts program at UBC. Hussein Janmohamed (Assistant Director) will be completing his Master of Music at UBC this year. His journey has been full of excitement, handwork, and most of all, Fun! Without the help and support of his friends, and mentor Nancy Hermiston, his road would not have been so easily paved. Although Hussein now occupies most of his lime on the direction and production side of things, he also likes his moment on stage and tries to get some singing in when he can. Hussein would like to thank his family for all their love and support in all his personal and musical endeavors. Leanne Koch (Serpetta) is currently completing the Master of Music program at UBC and studies with David Meek. In addition to the role of Serpetta in La Finta Giardiniera, she has also performed Papagena, the First Spirit and the Second Spirit in the Opera Ensemble productions of Die Zauberflote, Mrs. Gobineau in The Mediumjand Sandman in Hansel and Gretel. Upcoming performances include a recital of arias and songs in Grand Forks, BC and in May, a song recital at the School of Music. Megan Latham (Arminda) is currently finishing her fourth year as an Opera Major. Previous roles include the Second Lady in Die Zauberflote in Germany and the Czech Republic, the title role in Carmen, Dorabella in Cosi Fan Tutti, and Mrs. Nolan in The Medium at UBC. Megan has also enjoyed performing as a soloist in various oratorio works such as Vivaldi's Gloria, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Mozart's Coronation Mass, and Handel's Messiah. Upcoming engagements include Handel's Dixit Dominus with the Handel Society as well as a recital this spring. Jonathan A. Liebich (Nardo) is currently enrolled in the third year of the Opera program at the UBC School of Music under the tutelage of Gary Relyea. Roles with the UBC Opera Ensemble thus far have included Papageno in Die Zauberflote and The Father in Hansel and Gretel. Mr. Liebich has enjoyed an active solo career in Oratorio including Handel's Messiah, Bach's Wachet, Betel, Betel, Wachel and Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass. Upcoming engagements include a recital with UBC colleagues in early May, Messiah in Salmon Arm and the role of the Commondatore in Don Giovanni with the Vancouver Academy of Music. Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, James McLennan (Podesta) is completing his master's degree in opera studying on a University Graduate Fellowship. Last year he appeared as the Witch in UBC's production of Hansel and Gretel, and this past summer he loured Germany and the Czech Republic with the UBC Opera Ensemble. James has sung with the Vancouver Opera Chorus, and he is a member of the Opera Breve Vancouver Ensemble. In May, James will perform the role of Fredric in the Pirates of Penzance with the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra. Phoebe MacRae (Sandrina), a Victoria native, is completing her Master of Music in Opera here at UBC. In addition to school performances, she has sung with Pacific Opera Victoria, Western Concert Opera, Modern Baroque Opera, and the Vancouver Opera Chorus. Also an active recital and concert artist, Ms. MacRae has been heard as a soloist with the Pacific Baroque Orchestra, Elektra Women's Choir, Vancouver Cantata Singers and the Capilano College Choirs. In mid-April she will perform a concert of Handel's music with the Pacific Baroque Orchestra. Harout Makarian (Count Belfiore) is Armenian, born in Jordan he began his musical studies at the Royal Jordanian Academy of Music, a full scholar given by Ms. Katia Ricciarelli. Since coming to Vancouver he has performed regularly with the UBC Opera Ensemble. Roles performed include Alfredo in La Traviata, Nemorino in Elixir of Love and Babilas in Mr. Chouflueri. He is currently a second year student of the Bachelor of Arts Performance program at the Vancouver Academy of Music; while on full scholarship generously given by the Vancouver Academy of Music. Performances at the Academy have included the Duke in Rigollelo, Rudolfo in La Boheme and Jaqino in Fidelia. Suseh Nievares (Stage Manager) begins her first year with the UBC Opera Ensemble as a production assistant. Her musical training began at the age of three with a ukelele - a gift from her mother. She has studied piano in the RCT program and has actively been involved in school and church musical theatre productions as an actor, singer, musician, and stage crew. Opera has become her first love although she adamantly insists that she "doesn't have an operatic voice!" Graduating from the UBC Opera Program, born and raised Vancouverite, Gina Oh (Arminda), is excited to play the role of Arminda. Past credits with the UBC Opera Ensemble include: Fiodiligi in CosiFun Tutti, Gianetta in Elixir of Love, Elizabeth in The C'n/cible, Granny in Into the Woods, Vixon in Three Penny Opera and chorus lolanthe. Lambroula Maria Pappas (Sandrina) is majoring in Voice Performance at UBC under the instruction of David Meek. She has won numerous awards and scholarships around the Lower Mainland, including the BC Festival of the Arts. Lambroula has performed several operatic roles in Die Fledermaas, Die Zauberflote, Albert Herring. The Telephone, and was a winner of the UBC Concerto Competition for 1997/98.
