Perspectives of notable Canadian trumpet players on orchestral audition performance and preparation Moraes, Matheus Correa de

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the process of preparing for, and performing in, an audition for a trumpet position in a professional orchestra in Canada, according to top level experts in the field. The three goals of this study are: 1. To summarize the philosophy of expert Canadian trumpet performers andeducators on the topic of orchestral audition preparation for trumpet, and delineate key points and tools in their approach; 2. To offer insight into the preparation specific to a selection of four excerpts, chosen for their frequent use in professional auditions across North America, according to the criteria that these performers and educators believe to be the most important and sought after by orchestral panels; 3. To gather expert opinions on the differences between auditioning for a trumpet position in a professional Canadian orchestra as opposed to an American one, or if such differences exist at all.
