Incomplete Stele in Mount Shangfang (Shangfang Shan 上方山) Xie, Yifeng; Guan, Zhongyue; Wu, Meilian; Cavayero, Michael; Liang, Yunyan

Description

Incomplete stele in three pieces by Li Xin 李新 of Xia 夏 Village. The date reads "大清康熙庚辰 ([Inscribed in] the year Gengchen during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Great Qing)". The base measures 43 cm high, 71 cm wide, and 30 cm think. The body remains in two parts. One part measures 27 to 44 cm high, 55.5 cm wide, and 13 cm thick; the body's (fragmented) second part measures 14 to 20cm high, 55.5 cm. wide, and 13 cm thick. The top portion measures 44.5 cm high, 57.5 cm wide, and 14 cm thick. The base is carved with patterns of plum blossoms and the auspicious creature qilin 麒麟 (Chinese mythical unicorn), and the top portion is carved with the pattern of "two dragons playing with the pearl".
