Description

Tomb Stele of Louis-Gabriel Delaplace (Tian Jiabi 田嘉璧, 1820-1884) of the Saint Vincent Society, 圣味增爵会士田嘉璧墓碑. The end colophon reads "光绪十一年 ([Written in] the eleventh year of Guangxu emperor's reign, 1885)". The stele measures 246 cm high, 76 cm wide, and 25 cm think. It contains inscriptions both in Chinese and in Latin. On the head of the stele, there is the crest-insignia of the Saint Vincent Society; on the base there is a carving of a chord shape combined with a ruyi 如意 (S-shaped ornamental scepter). The Stele inscription is written in Song 宋 Script.
