Description

Couplet outside the Hall of Samgharama (Galan dou 伽藍堂), in Manpuku-ji Temple (萬福寺), an Ōbaku 黄檗 Zen temple in Uji 宇治, Kyoto prefecture 京都府, Japan. The right couplet reads "屏翰伽藍令德聲揚四海"(The virtues of Garani Bodhisattva spread throughout the world) (Image 01). The left couplet reads "權衡法護大功瑞煥無疆" (The merits of being a guardian of Dharma are numerous and far-reaching) (Image 02). They are written by Mu'an Xingtao (Jp. Mokuan Shōtō) 木庵性瑫 (1611-1684), the second abbot of Manpukuji.
