The Sanctuary of Demeter at Dion MaikidouPoutrino, Dafni
Description
The sanctuary of Demeter is the most ancient sanctuary testified at Dion. It was located outside the city, at the "sacred area", where all sanctuaries where constructed. The location is just outside the city walls, to the south of the city, to the north of the (later) sanctuary of Asklepios and to the west of the sanctuary of Zeus Hypsistos. It is important to stress out that the cult of Demeter presents a long continuity through time, from the late Archaic period till late antiquity, with many consequent architectural phases of construction.
