Sahyadri Khanda (Purana), also known as “Sthala-Purana (regional Purana text)” Kale, Durga

Description

Part of a regional textual tradition in late-medieval western India (c. 1400 - 1800 CE). The text of Sahyadri Khanda self-proclaims to be a part of Skanda Purana and quotes from other main Puranas to build a narrative for the cultural landscape of western coast of India. A part of HIndu narartive tradition, the text establishes itself as both Vaishnava and Shiva traditional text in western India. The text is popular amongst the population in modern Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala.
