Niche 289, Beishan Rock Carvings (北山石刻) Anderl, Christoph

Description

This niche is located in Beishan Rock Carvings (北山石刻), Fowan (佛灣), Dazu (大足) District, Chongqing. The middle wall depicts a seated laywoman image holding a baby. The upper part of the infant's body is lost. Two standing female attendants flank the central image. The damaged remains of several figures of children playing appear in front of the central figure. A nanny breastfeeding a child is depicted on the left side. The upper part of her body is lost. The niche frame is decorated with a curtain.
