Description

These three niches are located in Beishan Rock Carvings (北山石刻), Fowan (佛灣), Dazu (大足) District, Chongqing. Niche 268 is severely eroded. The bottom of the niche depicts three seated images. A pair of disciple images flank the middle image, while the left image has an attendant on its left side. The upper part of the niche has two layers of seated images, three at the top and four at the bottom. Niche 272 is similar to Niche 268. However, the attendant image is placed next to the right image at the bottom of the niche. The upper part of the niche is damaged. Only traces of two layers of small images are found. Niche 274 depicted a standing bodhisattva image with three donor figures. All their heads are lost. Descriptions of the photos: Close-up of Niches 268 and 272 [1]. Close-up of Niches 272 and 274 [2].
