Stone plaque, No. 138, Beishan Rock Carvings (北山石刻) Anderl, Christoph

Description

This stone plaque is located in Beishan Rock Carvings (北山石刻), Fowan (佛灣), Dazu (大足) District, Chongqing. Three sets of traditional Chinese characters were carved on the plaque. The vertical column on the left edge shows seven characters, “Minguo shisan nian yuanri” (民國十三年元日), indicating the plaque was put in place in 1924. However, it is uncertain whether “yuanri” refers to the first day of January or the first day of the first luni-solar month. The horizontal row in the middle of the plaque displays four characters “fengyan yongjing” (烽煙永靖). Another four characters in a vertical column, “zun yi lu ying” (遵義魯瀛), are carved on the right edge of the plaque. The two vertical columns are written in regular script (Chinese: kaishu 楷書), while the horizontal set is in seal script (Chinese: zhuanshu篆書). Metadata created by: Sau Ling Wendy Yu.
